Expanding necks before turning necks - what die??

When considering a neck turning set up, the end result is important and some don't cut consistently. My gear will hold to 0.0005" variation which is plenty good for what I need to do.

But the way the tool is used is equally important. Many of the brands mentioned here work but how they are used can vary alot AND that is a big deterent to some reloaders.

I can't think of a precision game that processes more brass per season then FTR shooters. I am prepping brass in the hundreds at a time so have learnt that some stuff is way too painful and/or slow to use.

A case holder that has to been loosened and tightened with a tool is going to be torture to use. Any case holder that needs multiple steps to manipulate slows down the process alot too.

As I have said before, for those processing a dozen or two cases, most every thing works. Just be weary that some stuff is HARD to use.

hend238, the Forster set up I mentioned holds the case stationary and the cutter moves. Can be used very quickly. Seems to hold very good tolerances. Very durable

The trimming and deburr step is another that can be mechanised and sped up tremendously.

Neck prep and maintenance is such an important part of making precision ammo. Whatever the proper tool, just go use it and enjoy the results. As your needs change, the tool will as well.

Just don't buy junk cause you end up with irratic results AND that creates more problems in the ammo then doing nothing at all.

YMMV.

I have WFT 2's (world's finest trimmers, version 2) enroute for my 6.5, .300WSM, and .338LM, so it seems I'm on the right track.....

Maybe Santa will bring me a 21st Century setup....
