So Ive been building my reloading kit slowly and this weekend we took a trip down to Grand Forks. I looked at prices and decided that I would buy what I need to finish off my kit. So I was needing some empty brass and called the canadian border people to make sure that was ok. They said yup as long as its under 5000 rounds. Specfically asked if I need special forums and nope totally easy. So I pick up 150 assorted rifle caliber casings among other things. Went to cross back into canada today and the americans had a spot check set up and when they asked if I had any ammo or firearms I said yes of course. Well that turned into a hour and half search and all my brass and a brick of 22 shels conficated. So apparently the americans have a law in place about what can leave the counrty. They said that there is a forum that you have to apply for to leave with that sort of thing. I figured I would only have to check the canadian sidee because they are what I have to go through. So word to the people out there ammo, firearms, or anything firearms related will be seized and you wont get it back. Expensive lesson to learn thats for sure.

It's too bad you did not read all the posts in regards to this cross border shopping especially when it' relates to anything firearm, it would have saved you a lot of headache....

and not all firearm related items are blocked there are many things that can be purchased and brought back with no issues...

I feel for you man it sucks but unfortunatly its been like that for a few years now.
My mother lives in Massachussets and we visit a few times a year at one time I used to buy all my reloading components there including primers and powder,now I dont think I can even buy a scope.

Anything to do with firearms and ammo is controlled, BUT silly, you can buy a WHOLE reloading PRESS and its OK, because it goes under the "Tools" category not firearms.
Bullet molds, reload presses, scales etc all OK.
Not ok, Bullets, Wads, Shot sheels, primers, powder, firearm components etc..etc.
Just but that locally and support our Canadian dealers

i do not know how many people i have told over the past 4 years that if you get stopped on the USA side of the border with these types of goods you are in trouble. lots of guys on this site saying that they get all of there goods on the other side of the border and bring them back not problem, true untill you get stopped. the border crossings in Manitoba have increased there check stops over the last few years. I know myself if I do not have my paper work in order the night mare is unreal.
this is just a thought, let the dealers and importers do the work for you, this situation could have been alot worse and the check stops are not going to get any fewer. Not worth a criminal record, loss of vehicle and possibly loss of freedom.

Yeah I should of checked with the american side but I thought that the canadians were the only ones I had to check with. As for all the other posts on this subject I am now to this site and havent read anything like that. I wasnt charged with anything because I said what I had but I bet im gonna get hassled from now on when I cross the border. Live and learn.
