I have a supply of Re23 on hand and am wondering what everyone's experience has been with this powder. I have some experience with Re22 in several cartridges, but can't find any for sale at the moment in Canada, and so am wondering whether Re23 might be a reasonable substitute for Re22. I'm considering it with the 6.5x55.

Although Alliant lists Re23 as slightly slower than Re22, QuickLoad seems to suggest that this is backwards, and that Re23 is, in fact, slightly faster than Re22. In addition, Re23 appears to be a little bulkier than Re22.

Does anyone have experience with Re23 and, if so, how has it worked out? And what cartridges have you used it with?

While I don't have first hand experience, my shooting partner picked up an 8lb jug of it for his 6 creed. He's running 115 and 108 grain bullets and seeing good velocity numbers and impressive accuracy.

I will have first hand experience next week, a friend couldn't find R22, so he bought 8lbs of R23, for his 7mmremmag. We will be testing his loads next week.

I haven't used Re23, but I have used Re25 and Re26, and Re26 is a fair bit faster than Re25 in the 6.5X55 in my expereince.

In my test of 12 powders in the 6.5X55, Re26 emerged as the best powder for high MV's - accuracy was not tested.

Re23 will likely show as faster than Re22, and will be optimal for bullets in the 120-130 gr range in the 6.5X55 IMO, but will be potentially a good choice for 140 gr bullets too.

Your test of 12 powders with the 6.5x55 and 140-gr. AMAX is very helpful. Re26 really looks good, as it does with some other cartridges, most notably the .270 Win., and it is less bulky than Re25, giving top velocity without the compression needed with Re25.

In my lot #'s, RL23 is for sure faster burning than RL22

I use it with great results in the 6mm Creed, 280 Ackley and 308 Norma Mag

I reloaded some 7mmremmag loads yesterday, and test fired them. The R-23 seemed very slightly faster than R-22 in this application, I had to drop the powder charge by a grain, and could not reach the maximum load listed by Alliant without pressure signs. Accuracy was good, and when I checked for copper fouling, it was pretty much non existent.

In keeping with Alliant's long standing practice of the slower the powder, the higher the number, Re23 would be Re21, and Re26 would be Re24.
