This seems like a recently added in-house offering from RDSC, using new production r700 actions and criterion barrels. Price looks like a compromise between factory and full custom. Comes with the x-mark trigger. Haven't seen any talk about these yet, curious if anyone has experience either with these rifles or anything else in house from RDSC?

IMHO You can build a pretty nice semi custom for $2500

KRG Bravo is a $600 stock
Criterion barrels I have never heard of but you can do an IBI for less (or a kreiger for about the same price) ($750)
Bolt knob and ceracoat is a $250
Add a Tikka or R700 in there for $800 (or custom action for a bit more)
Add a nice trigger for $300

and you have yourself a nice rifle

I would stuggle with anything Remington until proven.

If I was spending $2500 on a "custom" rifle I would spend $3000 and get a really nice custom action instead.

Thanks for the input, wasn't super excited by the idea of dropping this kind of money on a dressed up factory action but thought I'd test the waters anyways since the specs pretty much meet what I'm looking for with the added benefit of being assembled and ready to ship. Would still be curious to get feedback from anyone who's bought one just for my own knowledge, but I'll take a look around and see if there's any lingering sales on custom actions.

They also got builds based on Cadex actions too if you dig around.

I couldn't find much besides they're nut to butt to RDSC, perhaps owner or employees branching out?

The cadex builds are a good catch, I didn't realize you could get barrels that weren't made by cadex for their actions, but from looking at the IBI site looks like you can just get a rem700 barrel that uses a barrel nut and headspace it yourself. Something to consider as I'm fond of the cadex actions short throw.

I think it's their in house custom Division. I seen a post on insta last night about them doing Bren 2 NR barrels. The work looked pretty good, very neat but again thats juts a picture.

That said I can't speak to their work but I know guys who only go there and they seem happy so thats a good sign?

You can find an address for Shield Gunworks and its the same address as RDSC so I strongly think its some inhouse work making the rifles.

I see they're only offering 16" carbon fibre cadex action builds so that's not really for me. Maybe time to consider just building my own...

I strongly recommend Impact actions, there are many companies making pre fits for them. Super smooth and light actions

I was a 60 degree guy until Insite put me onto them. They cost a little more but well worth it IMO

There's so many quality actions these days its hard to choose. Impact, ultimatum, cadex, defiance, big horn all come up regularly as good choices. Will have to do some homework.

It's the same company. As far as the rifles they're nothing special. I've handled 700 actions that were rebarreled, blue printed and trued by other gun smith's that felt much nicer compared to the RDSC 700's.

They make solid rifles. I've shot a few and they are accurate and handy rifles. I wouldn't quite call them complete customs but they are are a big step up from a factory rifle. Just not the same as a full on custom.

They are an RDSC in-house, semi-custom to full-on anything you want to order custom build shop. The Armourer is Nick Labrash, a forcer CAF Weapons Tech who worked on the "###y guns" within CANSOF, principally CSOR. He has solid skills, reulting in nice product.

Old thread revival.

Criterion barrels. I’ve used them in semi auto precision builds, they are solid. They started as a division of Krieger. Button rifled to keep cost down. Full nitride. The ones I used were for 308. 1:11.25 twist nitride. Shot very well. I used them on builds and they seemed to give my Lothar Walther barreled rifles a run for the money. Nothing but positive things to say about those barrels. Keep in mind these aren’t BR barrels. But they are excellent tactical precision rifle barrels.

Nick isn't the one building the bolt action rifles in the machine shop, he's mostly involved in the cerakote lab.

Have you noticed any differences with that 1:11.25 twist in terms of bullet stabilization versus a 1:10? I have a 1:10 criterion I'm just curious if yours shoots everything well across the weight spectrum or if it's picky.

Bullet stabilization isn’t an issue. It’s hitting the right FPS to hit the accuracy node.

20” barrel. I shot 168 and 175 smk reloads ( 43.4 varget) plus 168 federal gold. 1/2 , 5 round groups at 100. Those were the rounds I bought the barrel specifically for. Before the Liberals prohibited the rifle.

With 1:10 if your barrel is 18.5”-24” I found most require faster FPS to hit the accuracy node. 167 Lapua off the shelf or reload to 44.3 of varget ( Federal gold is about 43 of varget) for 168 and 175 smk. This should work. I use a 2.8 “ OAL.

Hope this helps.

A 1:10 twist is arguably the best and most rounded twist for a .308. If you want to be even more versatile/forgiving, then you could even go gain twist.
