Experiences with superformance

Looking for reviews on Hornady Superformance. Especially in 6.5x55. The velocity on the box says 2735 fps with a 140 grain.

I no experience with the superformance in the Swede, but in my 35 Whelen and 25-06 I experienced higher velocities than advertised on the box. I also found the cartridges a little on the big size when chambering a round into the chaber. Not excessive but enough to notice.

I believe Why Not? observed very erratic performance out of the .300 Win Mag version of that ammo.

Might be faster, but of the two rifles (30-06 Savage and 7mm-08 Rem Model 7) I've used it in, accuracy was not as good as other premium loads. Wife noticed more recoil in the 7mm-08.

My .300 savage loves it.My .243,not so much and yes there is a difference in recoil.

I've had blown primers with the .223, 53gr bullet SF ammo.

I have tried it in 222, 223 and 308. I could not get this stuff to group worth a sh*t. I won't be using it again,

I have used the 338 win mag version with the 225gr sst and the 7mm rem mag version with the 139gr gmx. The 338 wm did as advertised but the 7mm rm mag version was 120fps slower than the box said. Both grouped very well in my rifles.

I have tried 270win, 7mm-08, 300win mag by far the least accurate of factory ammo..Very inconsistent groups

I bought a box to try in my X-bolt 7mm rem mag and it wouldn't group nearly as well as Federals do loaded with Partitions

I've seen it behave strangely in a few other chamberings as well. IE; very poor accuracy and very stiff, almost locked, bolt lift.

Shot a half a box of 243 and very inconsistent. Get much better groups with cheap federal blue box and win. super x ammo.

Shot a half a box of 243 and very inconsistent

X2 on this with 58gr VMax' Superformance. Swapped out to a box of 75gr Hornady HPs' and accuracy was back.

Shot some today and was seeing pressure signs in my 30-06. Velocity was ~2880fps

I might know what your talking about . You forgot to mention the 9 fail to fires out of the two boxes of .257 I bought for the brass. Would never spend another penny on that crap...


I must have ran this one through the gun about ten times, the firing pin was working just fine and bang on with manufacturers specs:

My Tikka 243 loves the superformance 95 grn sst, it shoots sub moa.

I tried superformance powder in my 243. Found that the groups opened up with it compared to H335 and 4064. Also found their recommended loads to be a little on the hot side. Will be working up loads again when it warms up a bit. Did not chrony them, so can't compare with velocities - just group sizes.

I tried a box of 140gr SST in my .270 and found the groupings erratic, when compared to Federal blue box. Cheaper is better in this case.
