7mm-08 all the way. Either in an X-Bolt or a Shorttrac. The Shorttrac is a nice handling rifle. It also has shim adjustable stock, and you can get different thickness recoil pads for length of pull. If you and your wife get a chance to handle one I think you will like it. I have a Shorttrac in 7mm-08 and the recoil is very low.
