Explain the CZ-75/Shadow/Shadow 2 to me

You sir are correct. Forgot about that. But i will probably double check with ipsc ontario for their interpretation of the rules. Here's the video I'm referring to. Please see around the 41sec, 1:44, 2:58, 3:58. I think these are times....i could be off.

Well you weren't off, I'm really not sure what to make of that.

On some of these stages, she shoots it DA and some she racks the slide at the start. Could it be that they started off certain stages without one in the chamber? Hopefully the IPSC guys here will know.

That was my thought after the first one but they sure as heck didn't have that many mag in, chamber empty starts. Maybe Slavex will chime in, he's shot with her enough he'd know her routines.

As far as the rules I am not an RO but Appendix D4 #15 states:

"Handguns with external hammers must be fully decocked (see Rule 8.1.2.5), at the Start Signal. First shot
attempted must be double action. Competitors in this Division who, after the issuance of the Start Signal and
prior to attempting the first shot, #### the hammer on a handgun which has a loaded chamber, will incur one
procedural penalty per occurrence. Note that a procedural penalty will not be assessed in respect of courses of
fire where the ready condition requires the competitor to prepare the handgun with an empty chamber. In these
cases, the competitor may fire the first shot single action."

Based on that I would interpret it to be a procedural and I still can't imagine a competitor of her caliber is giving away penalties so there is likely another explanation. Unless there is a loophole that as long as she didn't chamber a round at load & make ready since there is no loaded chamber?

It could be any one of several different scenarios, all depends on the stage description, but unless otherwise stated first shot must be double action or a penalty is incurred. As bsand said earlier even if someone wanted to shoot it single action it would be faster to just cook off the first one and then take 2 shots SA than to rack the slide plus it does not incur a penalty as the first shot was DA, which by the way happens more than you think if the first target is small and a ways out there. Also if a shooter even decided they wanted to take the penalty and shoot the first one SA, why not just #### the hammer instead of tossing out a round. Hopefully someone will chime in as to the stage descriptions but I am going to assume it was "magazine inserted, round not chambered" start.

The stage start condition must be holstered, mag inserted, but no round loaded (empty chamber). In each situation when she racked her slide at the start, I didn't see a round eject.

So do the advantages primarily revolve around gaming IPSC rules?

Is there an inherent value in getting one CZ75 variant over another?

I wouldn't say it was about "gaming the rules" rather more about having a pistol that is designed to work well within the rules.

Some CZ variants have features that are advantageous depending on your wants/needs. Some have upgraded trigger components or custom fitting (Canadian edition, Orange) while others have decockers (Tactical). I think you have to decide what has inherent value for you.

well I'm glad i went with a shadow 1. I got to handle a shadow 2 yesterday, it didn't really fit my hand as well as the slim aluminum grips on my s1. The paddle magazine release is nice reminds me of the one on my buddies STI limited.
