Explaining coyote hunting

Does anyone else have this problem ?
I get more people actually angry at me for hunting coyotes than deer .
I don't understand it -I believe they think coyotes are some kind of mystical wolf like forest creature :ar15:
 
Why bother talking to these people, do you really think you are going to change thier minds about hunting??

Give them the big FU and go on with your day. Life is to short to worry about people like that.
 
Your just talking to the wrong people... wrong headed tree hugger types are a waste of your time GIX! Show them this piture and ask them what happens next?;)

Coyote fur is mostly used for trim. Parka hoods and the like. The hairs are a lot coarser than fox. I was getting $20 unskinned last year, with deductions for big holes, small ones, mood of buyer etc. It probably came close to $15. Yoteboy would know what Put-up fur went for.
A neighbor woman that happens to be a nurse once asked me why I shot coyotes, when "They're part of the Circle of Life" I explained that syphilis was too, and the conversation never came up again. For what its worth I think that it wasn't the fact that I was hunting them, but the numbers I was getting that brought on the question. When you are around that 100 mark you start getting wierd looks from hunters, never mind non-hunters.

Unskinned coyotes from Sask. and Alberta should average around $20-$25, provided they aren't shot up too bad. As for properly put up stuff this year - it's a little too early to tell because there's a surplus of early and crap fur still sitting at the auction houses. For some reason american trappers and hunters can't seem to get it into their head that Oct. and Sept. coyotes don't have prime fur, yet they put them up and try to sell them anyway.
Dogleg is right - coyote fur is used for mostly for trim. But since China is starting to look at coyote fur, other pieces of clothing are possible depending on their tastes and trends.

I like that and know a good line when I steal it. ;)

A recently transplated urban couple who settled in our rural area made a similar comment when I explained that I routinely shot any coyote coming onto my property. They said they liked hearing the coyote calls at night and said they were part of nature and had a place in the scheme of things. :rolleyes:
 
Coyotes are so thick in the Moose Jaw area they can been seen regularily in our golf courses at night chasing and killing cats and other small animals.

Coyotes are good when the population is in check but when they are thick and carry mange...look out. Example being the town outside Regina that had coyotes preying on young children and house pets. The town actually went on the 6PM news crying for hunters to shoot them. Dont think alot of people went as the town is full of tree huggin hippies but non the less they had a major problem.
 
When I lived in Lake Louise (Banff National Park) we had park wardens knocking on the doors to warn us about how aggressive they were getting about hunting pets. Of course we weren't allowed to possess firearms, much less USE them.

Now I live in an area where I can hear yotes while I sit at the computer (I won't mention all the other voices I hear, as nobody else seems to hear them) and get to try out my 223 on them from the front porch. A much nicer arrangement me thinks. :)
 
Yeah, they took our last kitten and "she who must be obeyed" has called in a marker for all the firearms related purchases she has supported - My orders are: "kill the dogs, ALL of them."

I can live with that. ;)
