Exploded case stuck in chamber

Get a 1/4" brass rod and make one of these:

Just wiggle it around untill you feel it catch, then pull. Work's great on a variety of calibers.

Same thing happened to my 223 Savage. Buddy of mine (millwright) hooked up a small hose to the shop CO2 tank and stuck it in the muzzle. Opened the valve for 30 seconds or so, sending ice cold gas down the barrel. I stood the gun upright and the brass shrunk enough that it fell out by itself. Worked for me anyways...

Varmit boy hit the easy one. Brass will shrink as it cools much faster then the steel will. Loctite also makes a spray can of stuff for freezing stuck bolts to free em up. Odds are if you blow co2 or freon substitute down the barrel for 20 seconds and tap the but on the ground sharply it will fall out. Do NOT use a tap or easy out, they are harder then your chamber and barrel and unless you do it abso####ingperfect, you will mark em up and make a huge mess. Either make a brass hook puller as shown above, or spring for a broken case extractor. I believe the multi tool that comes with the norc M 14's has a broken case extractor on it.

good luck and may the (gentle) force be with you, let us know how it turns out

I've been carrying a broken shell extractor in my range bags for years for just this reason. One friend of mine has managed a couple due to laquered cases on the x39/unclean chamber.

A brass brush may work. dont stick a steel anything up there though.

I have split a couple like that on the m14, but it was when I was trying to figure out how many times I can reload brass on the norc. None stayed in the chamber though.

Check that you are not over sizing your brass and creating excess headspace there.

The clean your chamber, and run tight paper towel around in it to check for a bur. The case hung on something.

Also, bend a hook on the inside of a paperclip, and feel the inside of your other brass from that day. There may be some with a ridge in them that nearly spliit. If so, I'd chuck that lot of brass, and look at the dies vs chamber.

Hey, that's the very casing I extracted with that little tool. Cost like $5 to make. I tried a bunch of the suggestions here, and it was snowhunter that explained how to make that little device. What can I say. It works, and there's zero chance of it buggering up your gun.
