I thought I had found the one hole 100yrd load for my 1/7" twist 22/250 but it turns out only 50% of the bullets were getting to the target.:( The ones that make it all the way go into .25" or less. They are 60 grn HPFB, I'm going to try a couple grains less powder and see if that works as I had a good group when working up but I really thought 34 of H4895 was magic for a while . My load with 90VLDs shoots as good at 200 as 100, under .625" and they work all the way to 1000 but I'd like to find something that shoots great at 100.

I have some 75 gr Hornady here you can try. Are you going to Batouche the long weekend in September? I can bring them with me. Your 22-250 is bang on at 900 meters with those 90 gr Bergers. Almost makes me want to buy one.

I learned about "exploding" bullets about 3 decades ago.
I bought some of the then new Hornady 50 grain SPSX bullets.
I loaded them in my 220 Swift in front of a charge of IMR4064.
They were starting at just a shade over 4000 fps.
I was shooting them at a 100 yard target, and they were working great for the first couple of groups.
Then as I fired a round, I noticed a grey "cloud" out about 50 feet from the muzzle of my rifle.....guess what? No hole in the target!!
As the rifle got dirtier, more & more of these fragile bullets did the same thing.
Solved the issue by backing the load down to produce 3600 fps or so.
When the Ballistic Tip showed up, never used the SPSX in the Swift again.
Eagleye.

Thanks for the offer John but I've tried them and I couldn't get them under .75". I tried 32.5 and the 60s today and they all got to the target but the average group was just over .5" not much better than the 90s. I may try the 80 bergers as suggested but I likely should break down and get a good set of dies and start neck turning my cases. Shooting off a bypod can sure make a guy fussy. Can't wait to get the 308 TR out again for the Atlantic Championship.

Light bullets from a .223 will stand a 1:7 twist provided they do not have thin jackets. You should find the 52 gr MK performs pretty well, on the day you don't want to shoot 80 gr bullets. Likewise the 45-53 gr TSXs have no jacket, so they'll take the heat.
