My apologies if this is located in the wrong section... I recall seeing info on this topic before the "big move", but at the moment it seems unavailable.

Can anyone fill me in on the legality of importing this item from the U.S.?

OD grip for a Walther P22:
http://www.bouncemedia.ca/james/p22grip.JPG

I'm hoping (perhaps in vain) that this plastic shell would be considered a "grip" and not a "frame" as there is no serial # anywhere on it... the receiver is dropped into it. The small rectangle window above the thumb groove is where the serial # is displayed when the gun is assembled.

The value is under $100 US.

Any help here is greatly appreciated guys.

Cheers,

James

Grips would qualify for the US State Department exemption... if under $100 US wholesale value then no export permit required.

You're good to go.

Mark.

A really good way to verify if an item (small parts, etc.) needs an export permit or not is to look the item up on Brownells website:

www.brownells.com

If they have a little link beside the item saying "Gun Part" click the link and see what it says. Some items will be marked as eligible for the $100 US exemption... other items will state that an export permit is required.

Brownells is pretty good about know what does and does not require paperwork and permits.

I have a TC Contender barrel 30 Herrett that I would like to sale on Ebay or GunBroker. Do I need an export license to shipped that barrel in USA ? and does the buyer need an import licence to purchse it ? Thanks in advance for those helpful info.

Unfortunately I think you'd have to ask the State Dept. It's not a "receiver" for legal purposes in the US, but nor is it a grip, strictly speaking. I think it would be classed under Category 1(h) of the US Munitions List: http://www.pmdtc.org/docs/ITAR/2005/22cfr121_Part_121.pdf

That would mean as long as the value of the shipment is less than $100 US that you wouldn't need an export license. (No asterisk so it's not SME unless it exceeds that value).

Yes to both questions. He would need an approved ATF Form 6 Part 1 import permit, and you'd need a copy of that to get an export license.

Check the walther forums... I think its ok from what I read. go check it though.

There is a guy who sells frames. THE ATF has probs with the 40 cal frame as it i apparently diff than 9mm and of course 22.

This difference is what makes it inert. You will want to confirm this before you gamble your $100.
