I have an express 870 magnum. I would like to purchase a tube extension. the magtube has pinched cams to hold the plastic cap lock in place. Is there a standard procedure to allow the shell rim to pass through? I was going to turn up a round punch to press out the dents the required amount. I like to ask before I do something wrong :) thanks for any advice.

p.s. I searched threads, but found about 1.3 million that include express 870 :)

Many people simply mount the tube in a padded vice, and drill them out in a drill press. The area is covered by the barrel support ring, so the mod doesn't show.

I used progressively larger sockets to swage the metal back into shape. To make up for the stretching, I center punched and drilled the center of each side before swaging.

thanks, I am assuming you left some of the cams to hold the plastic piece from spinning when the extension is off? thanksagain

Nope. You have to ream it right back to a clean tube to ensure feeding. Why would you go without the extention? If you are hunting, just make up a longer plug.

As Canuck223 says for dimple removal or as I do, and prefer, drill.

You cannot use the original spring retainer, but you can purchase an earlier style if you want to remove the extension.
