Extendable Chokes

First of all, do extendable chokes alter your sighting plane on an over and under? In other words do I really get a 30-32 inch barrel perspective when I put extended chokes on an old Browning B-325 Sporting O/U with 28 inch barrels?

The gun is nice but the barrels are a wee bit short.

Second, if extendable chokes do help, who are the better manufacturers, and who on CGN sells them?

I haven't heard of extendable chokes, but Briley and Trulock make some of the better extended chokes.

1) Nope, for 1 reason. There is no bead on a choke tube.

2) Extendable choke tubes do help, but for different reasons. Think weight forward (not much) for a better swing, choke constriction outside the barrel if using steel shot.

I don't see my chokes behind the gun. Extended chokes apparently offer better patterns but I think it is bs. However I have them for my main sporting gun as it makes choke changes easy for the odd time I do change chokes in a round.

You guys forgot the best part about the extended chokes, they look cool
Really I just like that they are easier to get in and out.

^^ debatably, the best part is they stop you from denting your muzzle when you are not paying attention.

Would it help your sighting plane if you removed the old bead crazy glued the bead on the extended choke?

My only problem is I cannot seem to always stop checking them for tightness between stations. Bad habit I know

I don't like them myself. I think they are just plain ugly and offer no benefit other than a little something to hold onto to swap out by finger rather than a wrench. As for better patterns even Briley says there is no improvement in a chokes performance with any choke longer than 3"......any gain that can be achieved in choke performance is done within a 2.5" to 3" length.

Some choke tube designs are shorter than 2-1/2". I like the extended tubes because it's easy to check to make sure they are tight, and they protect the muzzle. And if I am going to purchase aftermarket choke tubes, they may be the only option.

I use Carlson chokes in my guns mostly and they seem to patteren better. Easy to see what's in the gun. And by the looks of wear on them from resting gun on my leather toe pad I'm glad it's not my barrel taking the wear

I use Muller chokes. The biggest reason i like them is easy to clean and easy to read. They also seem to pattern very well but so have most of the other chokes ive used. I will never own ported chokes again the have no advantage and a pain in the ass to clean.

I use muller as well for all the same reasons

Muellers work great for me as well. I was a bit weary about hand tightening them at first, but have had no trouble. Super light and pattern well.

I don't like the look of extended tubes, but I use them... simply for the ease of changing and I also like confirming which tube is in at a glance, as I am one of those guys that is always messing with chokes... they also protect the muzzles. I prefer Brileys and Carlson's, but a have a few Muller tubes and they are fine also.
