I've been trying to get the extended baseplates for my P2000 ever since I got the gun earlier this year. Looks like they are finally on their way from one of the site sponsors (o.k., it's Wolverine.... not their fault for the delay. Apparantly they had to get them from Germany). In the meantime I picked up one in the EE from a guy that bought some from HKPro forums. The only thing I can't understand is... why would HK put the flat baseplates on all the P2000's coming into Canada in the first place? The gun sucks in that configuration. (Unless they are trying to get rid of them?) The problem with the flate baseplates... you would have to have hands no bigger than my Asian girlfriend in order for the grip to fit you without the extended baseplates. Check out these photos:

The flat baseplates do not extend out beyond the end of the gun at all. I can only get about half my pinky on the grip this way. This grip does not inspire confidence (or consistency). I kept shifting the gun around trying to get up higher on it... but there is no where to go. My pinky actually slip off when shooting a few times.

This is what happens when you pop the extended baseplate on there. The grip feels as good as a Walther P99 or some of the other guns that have a really nice ergonomic feel to them.

The other thing about the extended baseplates... they look alot better than flat. I should be getting 3 more mags and 5 more extended baseplates by about next week. Then I can switch my whole stock of mags over to the useable ones - for a total of 6. Can't wait! I took the gun to the range with the one extended mag last weekend... and it shot so much better. I know it sounds crazy... same gun, same barrel. But it just felt a whole lot better in the hand - and I never once found myself shifting the gun around in my hand trying to get a better grip - and it showed in the consistency of my results. I'm going to try it again this weekend. I think I might actually like this gun almost as much as my main gun (SIG 229) now that I have a decent grip on it.

For anyone else with a P2000 - unless you are a small Asian woman, or you are using the gun for CCW in Utah or something, get the right mag baseplates for the gun. It makes a huge difference. And for you Correctional Service guys and gals... DO NOT let CSC buy the crappy flat baseplates. Get the right ones.

Well... the mags and baseplates came in today! Woo hoo! I now have six good mags for my P2000. Thanks to Ryan and the people at Wolverine for figuring out of they could bring these in for me... and for actually getting them. The P2000 is greatly diminished - much more than many other small guns - without the extended baseplates in my view. The grip is just too damn small without them.

Here are some pics. Notice that there are 5 mags that say "Made in Germany" on the front of the mag? Those are the two that came with the gun, and the three that came from Wolverine. The one without it is the one mag that I bought in the EE... and the original purchaser bought it from HKpro forums. All six mags say "9 x 19 C" on the side, and "9mm C" on the bottom of the baseplate. Unlike the flat baseplates, the extended ones don't have the HK logo on the bottom (you can see this in the pictures). Strangely, all five of the "Made in Germany" mags have a "1" on the bottom, whereas the one from HKpro forums has a "2". I wonder if even the great CGN HK guru Maurice knows what that is all about. Anyway, I am just stoked to have a bunch of good mags for this gun now. It is a really nice shooter with that extra bit of grip on there. I think I will take this gun to the range by itself this weekend, without its favoured sibling the SIG 229 lurking in the background. I recommend everyone with a P2000 to order some of these. I don't know if Wolverine has a stock of them now, but I do know that they can get them.

nice ghostie congrats, its always the little things that make a huge difference, what range do you usually frequent ?

I too think they are fantastic. I was out at the range today with my P2000 and the extended baseplates. It made quite a difference with the grip and I felt I had better control of the pistol. I debated whether to keep the P7 or the P2000 but after using the extended baseplates the choice is easy.

I prefer the flat mags as do some US guys but I like small guns.

Tommeh, I shoot my P2000 LEM pretty much about as well as my P7M8. I know Ghostie likes the DA/SA but the V1 LEM (about 5-6lbs) that Wolverine sells feels in my hands like an Single action pull with a long reset...kind of like a Browning Hipower. In modern plastic guns I found the P99 SA to be an excellent trigger with a super short reset that rivals or beats that of a 1911.

an NP3 P7? I would have kept it myself, but I like tiny guns!! The P2000 is much easier to clean!!! If it weren't for the 3 P7M8's I already own, I probably would have just bought 2 P2000's for the price of 1 P7M8 if I was starting out as a new gun buyer today.

It's good we now have the choice for an excellent little gun.

I know I'm crazy, hehe.

I haven't tried the P99 it was on the list to try some day. I don't mind tiny guns but I think that the P2000 fits me better than the P7. I didn't at all like how that pistol shot.

I agree about the LEM in the P2000. I also have the LEM in my USP however the P2000's trigger for some reason is a little bit better IMHO. Once you've mastered the LEM the accuracy is fantastic.

X 2 Roger that!

Tommeh,

I found the P7 to be a very long and deep grip. This is good for preventing rotational torque during firing but prevented me from using the crease of my distal finger joint for better control. It pulled shots to the left. With the pad of the finger joint it shot straight. The P2000 shoots straight with my preferred 'power crease' method as taught by Massad Ayoob. The gun is even better after I put in the small backstrap. Of course this depends on the person.
