extended chokes

I often find a slight improvement in patterns, with the extended Briley chokes, but I also like the fact that I can verify with my fingers, that the choke tube hasn't come loose.

I prefer the extended choke tubes for the reasons listed above. I also found that when I shot my Beretta that the factory choke patterns were horrible ... I threw them all away and bought Briley tubes. Trulock are also good tubes in my experience. I suggest that you put yours on paper and see how they perform.

do briley extended chokes make it worthwhile, I now shoot browning invecter plus factory flush ones. they seem ok. any info would be helpful.

Worthwhile in what way. They are easier to change but IN+ pattern just fine. If the browning chokes are "OK' don't bother because extended chokes will not help your shooting.

Extended chokes will lighten your wallet, if that helps. The aftermarket choke business is the largest scam ever perpetrated on the shotgun shooting community.

Agree 100%. Once I switched I will never go back especially since I use the same gun for trap and skeet and switching all the time

After testing Beretta original mobile chokes versus Briley extended, there were no differences except for the ease of removal. They were the same constriction as the Beretta chokes. The aftermarket choke business is a bit of voodoo and a slight bit of trickery to get those denser patterns. They cheat somewhat by have slightly tighter constriction compared to the factory chokes. So, they throw a slightly tighter pattern than what they say the constriction is. Muller solved this by calling his chokes numerically. This way he cannot be accused of cheating. I have tested the Optima chokes and the Optima HP chokes versus the aftermarket. Beretta sent me a pair of LM flush Optima HP and they patterned slightly denser than the Muller 2. BTW, I have 2 used and 2 new Muller Optima HP 2 for sale! Beware of the heavy S/S chokes. They ad substantial weight to the nose of the shotgun and affect the "moment of inertia" or the liveliness of the shotgun. The ported one look ugly, are noisy and a pain to clean. Make sure that you have a guaranteed return policy if not satisfied!

Benefits to extended chokes: Can see which choke you have in the gun easily; can tighten, check tightness, and change them easily without tools.

not so good for hunting - they are usually shiny and reflective. even the not so shiny ones are still not amenable for camo hunting

I use them in all of my hunting shotguns, but I choose the black oxide colored tubes for my waterfowl gun, and they are as dull as the barrel.

You can use tape if you want - or buy super dull extended chokes ... or just dont use extended chokes for hunting in the first place. How often are you changing chokes or checking to make sure your chokes are still tight when you are out hunting? I like extended chokes for target shooting (I bought an entire set of the shiny Diana tubes for my browning) - but not so much for hunting.
