can I mount an ''extended eye relief'' scope in regular position over the reciever -or does it HAVE to be mounted forward?

What do you mean by extended eye relief?
Are you talking about pistol or scout scopes?
Pistol and scout scopes won't work to well mounted in the regular postition.

Extended eye relief are meant to be used with handguns. They will not be suitable for use on a rifle.
For a scout rifle, you need an Intermediate Eye Relief scope. I must be mounted forward of the receiver.

Besides the pistiol and scout scopes there are other scopes described as extended eye relief. Some of the smaller variable scopes from Bushnell are indicated as having up to 6" of eye relief. These are usually intended for shotguns and muzzel loaders but work well for other applications where longer eye relief is required when mounting the scope in the normal ring placement. PHil.

I put one on my 98k Isreali and it works great.
