I'm in the process of compiling a list of External Ballistic Applications (all platforms) for a 'friend' of mine (I'll stop right here... ;) )

What is out there? What have you worked with? What works? What does not work? What is onerous to work with?

:nest:

Any experience and feedback would be most appreciated.

Cheers,
Barney

I'm curious to know what works with Mac. Brian Litz's program I received with his book does not.

The only OS X ballistic calc that I know of is GNU Exterior Ballistic Computer, or BalComp for short - http://sourceforge.net/projects/balcomp/

Derek Yates, the author of BalComp, also wrote the ballistic engine that powers iSnipe.

The open-source UI is a little rough around the edges, but the data it spits out is every-bit as accurate as anything else. Unlike Brian's program though, BalComp does not compute Spin-drift or Coriolis... not sure what level of precision you're looking for.

Exbal from Perry Systems. You can get it for Palm, Pocket PC and PC. I have used this program for 3 years and found it totaly reliable. It has never told me wrong. Even if I don't believe it. The solution come out on top. Cheers to Perry.

dam nice i was looking for a GNU software !

I use Quickload for load development.

I use exbal for simple firing solutions. I prefer Loadbase for complex or long range calculations as it has a number of features not found on exbal for example. The major one being the ability to set your zero conditions for data and then applying any change based on environmental conditions. Significantly more precise in calculations. My preference. Lots of new features and upgraded just about quarterly. Exbal seems to want you to pay to upgrade time and time again. Loadbase is for life....

I`ve been using Pejsa to as it works on my blackberry as well as the lap top, easy to modify to calculate mils to, and you can save ballistics for a bunch of loads. All you have to do is un-lock the spread sheet.

That being said, the Berger programs gives almost identical solutions for the same input and has a more user friendly input. Also you don`t need a spreadsheet program to run in. I may switch.

The program I used on my Ipod was Knight Armament's BulletFlight.

I honestly wish it was available on an Android OS though. I don't want to buy an Iphone in order to utilize the program. With the add-on for bluetooth on Shooter I may try that program more extensively. I played around with it for a few days but didn't like the UI as much as BulletFlight.
