My hands are a little too big for the single stack 1911 I have right now, but I'm too cheap to buy another gun and like mine too much to trade.:p

So is there anywhere I can get a set of 1911 grips that are extra thick, preferably wood. I don't like rubber on a 1911, G10 or Micarta is ok.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

i've never seen extra thick grips any where. but i've seen spacers that go between the grips and the frame to prevent scratch from the grip rubbing against the frame that might thicken the grip a little.

I have a set of metal inserts that go between the frame & the grip & use extra long grip screws.
Bought them years ago. I think there are called Breskovitch inserts .
With them in the gun is about like a double stack. They do add a bit of weight also.

I am not using them right now if you are interested, PM me .

You could always make your own, get some wood, cut out the shape, drill the holes and sand down to fit etc, I did the reverse when I needed smaller grips.

Actually, there are lots of different width grips for 1911's. There are ultra thin ones like some of the STI factory grips.

Colt factory 1911 grips seem to be a standard width. I kinda use them as the benchmark.

I've had quite a few pairs, mostly bought off the EE here, that have been noticibly thicker than standard Colt 1911 grips. Usually, after market knock offs.

NAA.

anything with finger grouvs will feel bigger...you can even get rubber waparound grip/inserts that go under your existing grip. I have that on my 1911 :)

+1

Hogue wrap around grips with the finger grooves on the front strap will give a noticibly larger grip.

Even the wrap around Pachmayrs with or without the thumbswells in the side panels will give a larger grip feel over standard wood/synthetic side panels only.

Just checking but are you currently using an extended main spring housing? An extended main spring bulges out the grip on the lower back part of the grip.

With extended main spring housing.

What MPI said an arched MSH will help some,my 1911 has a flat MSH and I use some black horn buff grips they have swells in them and they help eleminate hammer bite.
