Recently bought a Sr22. The first outing with the rifle was very disappointing. Bought a brick of American Eagle and the rate of fte was over 10%(50+). I know that the cause of fte could be many things, ammo, magazine, new rifle, dirty rifle. So after cleaning the rifle, buying a new mag( butler creek steel lips), and buying 5 different brands of ammo, it was back to the range. So first up was Blazer .22lr, first round with the new mag, fte, 2nd round ftf, 3rd round fte, 4th round ka boom. After further inspection i see that the extractor and plunger are gone. What the f***. Now what? The only mod is a 12" barrel from dlask. Could this be the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

dont get yourself down, 10/22's have a break in period where they will jam a lot (about 2 bricks to break in for all of mine). Buttler Creek mags need to be broken in as well (fill them and let them sit for a day and the spring will losen). I personally have never delt with Dlask barrels but I heard the edge on the chamber is slightly sharper thus not liking bulk ammo but others will chime in on that. A Volquartsen exact edge extractor is the best 12 dollars you can spend on your 10/22 and it will solve a lot of your problems.

The cause was probably a case head failure and the venting of gas before the pressure had dropped sufficiently. That much gas flowing against the extractor probably popped it out; its only held in under spring tension.

Bad ammo or bolt opening too soon (due to weak/kinked spring) is the probably culprit. With a 12" barrel, the bullet leaves sooner and the pressure vents to the outside quicker, I can't see that being the cause....unless the chamber and bore weren't in spec, but I doubt that.

I've had this occur twice with 2 different .22's. One a cheap C-tire, the other a custom 597. Both were the result of the bolt not being completely closed but the hammer was free to fire. Both were really loud and I got peppered with burning powder as the case rims blew out. Out of spec ammo was most likely the reason. Frustrating but repairable, life with blow-back semi-auto actions.

Happen to me twice with a Dlask barrel... once with Rem Target and the second time with Blazer... both time I lost my Volqs extractor but was lucky enough to find it nearby....The Blazer just blew-off my mag.. No problem with Federal Champion and Win 333...
