Extractor issues with my m 70 7 mm

It isn't difficult to do, obtaining the parts is the hardest... there are two styles - push feed and controlled round... why do you need to replace it?

I've got a 1977 model 70 and why I need to replace it is that the empties don't eject properly they kick off halfway out and I have to dump them or use my hand to clear them

I am guessing that is a push feed... ? If so the ejector may be at fault. You are describing an ejector problem in that the extractor is extracting the case from the chamber.

I think you need to have the problem correctly diagnosed before replacing parts. If it isn't ejecting properly it can be the ejector or a combination of the ejector and the extractor...

Gun Tech is right, it should be a plunger type Ejector and what I have found that the spring could get weak or it could be full of crap. I have also seen that the case may be hitting the scope turret boss. Start by removing the bolt and see how strong the plunger feels then looking carefully at the ejection of a few empty cases would help determine what the problem could be.

I think the plunger is shot it looks rounded

I believe rounded is the way it was manufactured. Can you push it all the way in and does it 'snap' out quickly? If it doesn't move freely it could have rust built up on the spring.

The same with the spring and plunger that hold the extractor in place...

It snaps out quickly yep but doesn't hold an empty very well
I'll tinker around and see what I can see

The ejector isn't supposed to hold an empty - just push it out of the way...

The extractor spring and plunger need to move freely too, allowing the extractor to wobble a bit..

Watch playing with the extractor, If you manage to unseat the sliding extractor block you may be looking for the plunger and the spring. It happened to me on a Ruger american, lucky I found both pieces.
Gunteck is on the right track and giving good advise.
Bushbasher, have you tried some empty cases to see what is going on while watching them eject?

David

both and it still kicks it off when the case is halfways down the travel of the action. I cleaned it and tried it again and same deal. will keep tinkering with it and watching it closely.
