Extractors to Ejectors on a SxS rifle ?

The shotgun I've got with an ejector has quite a lot more inside the lower lug that fits the barrel to the frame. It would not be an easy or cheap job to convert to an ejector.

Like the idea of ejectors on a SxS rifle is it feasible ?
-Baikal MP221 - 45/70
-I know they have shotguns with ejectors

It's ALL feasible.....if you have enough money to throw at it.

You really need to have a look at the complexity of the mechanisms that were used to eject the spent cases, as well as the fitting of the linkages which allowed the ejector, for instance, to eject only the shell which was fired, rather than trying to kick out both.

Not a trivial undertaking, and better either done for the love of tinkering, or left out of the picture.

I think you could easily spend more than the value of a new double rifle, on paying someone else to do this work for you.

Best recipe...sell the one you have, buy the one that does what you want.

I would suggest, if you are actually really interested in the stuff, making some drawings, as carefully as possible. Start by sketching, then work out the arrangement of parts, then work out some scaled drawings to suit. Typically you would want to scale them up at a convenient factor, like two time life size, or in the case of small parts, ten times. Ten times is nice because you can read the dimensions directly by measuring and dropping a decimal place. Any errors in measuring off the drawing are reduced by the same factor of ten when converted to real size, too.

If you dig around the web, you should be able to find a couple sets of shogun blueprint drawings out there. I know that at least one set is posted of the Winchester Model 21, which has ejectors, I think. Anyways, it is an interesting idea, if a bit impractical, but we do impractical things all the time, if we enjoy doing them.
Another useful location to search, if you are good with dealing with drawings (not everyone is), is the US Patent Office website, where you can search for patents and improvements related to Ejectors for Firearms, and see what ideas other folks had that they thought were worth a Patent application.

At worst, you will learn a fair bit about how these systems and mechanisms work. How can that be a bad thing?

I will talk with a smith, couldn't find much online and its nice to get a real persons view that has done it .

I think you are about a project that is going to comsume far more money than you will ever be willing to pay. Like as not, you need a Smith that has served a bona-fide apprenticeship in probably Germany, or maybe in England, in order to get someone that actually has some hands-on experience. A fella named Bailey Bradshaw in the US is another possibility.

You are really getting into territory that is usually accompanied by flying in a private jet to get see the guy doing the work, if you get my meaning. Serious money. There are a fair few decent bolt action gunsmiths out there, lots more that call themselves that but mount scopes mostly, and damn few craftsmen that are capable of pulling this kind of work off, and none that will do it cheap.

Best of luck. Keep us posted.

Martini builds rifles but his former associate, Martin Hagn, also in Cranbrook could build a double barrelled shotgun with a file and hammer if he had to. If it could be done, I am sure Martin could do it but at $50/hour you are looking at a pile of $$ for your project.
