Extreme newbie reloading question

I am using the lyman manual. It highlight the row in which the manual thinks is the best combo given a bullet weight. And I am trying to follow it. But one problem is that sometimes when I pick a combo I cannot find that highlighted brand of bullet or powder. That's why I am asking here. I am learning on my own and I do not want to take any kind of risk. I am going to buy a decent scale very soon. The one that comes with my Lee kit sucks.

Those are recommendations, not mandated requirements.

With some exceptions, one jacketed bullet will function the same as any other of the same weight. (Some may give better accuracy, terminal effects, etc, but it is safe reloading we are talking about.) Ditto lead bullets - if they're the same weight, carry on.

Find the bullet weight you have, select a powder from the list for that bullet weight and start lowish. For a 9mm, you should not be using magnum primers and there's not a great deal of difference between the various brands. Approach top-end loads with great caution.
