Extreme Spread Issues

Just a quick question on your col. How do you run them that long?
In my 300 ultra mag with a 215 berger is only 3.837 and is 30 thou off then lands. With a 208 amax and 300 win mag there can't be much bullet in the case.

The start of the taper on the boat tail is at the bottom of the neck give or take a few thou. I single load so not an issue.

I do believe it sounds like you have confirmed the group sizes at distance right?

Im more just tagging in for interest as it seems to me you are experienced at reloading but is there any chance your chrony readings were taken in the bright light of mid day if you did not confirm groups sizes at distance?

I have fought the chrony over the 20++ years I've had it. I have put translucent tape over the 'eyes' this seemed to calm it down some what. I really only trust the readings on dull overcast days. If I get the wind right an ISPC target at 1040 yards is not a problem. At 1144 yards there is a 13" steel disc and I'm + 50% on a good day (with the 300Win). This target is termed as being 'generous' at that distance. More work to do. My 260 rem can slam that target all day with >85% confidence of a hit.

That makes more sense. I layed out a 208 amax in a 300 win mag case and couldn't figure out how that would work. Was thinking if that was the way they were loaded extreme spread could be an issue as there is basically no bullet in the case.
I single load all my 300 Rum cases with the 215 bergers. I am assembling a new 300 win mag on a Tac 300 action and have been trying ot figure out if I need a Whyats extended box as I am going to use the 215 bergers and this one is a carry gun and I dont want it to be a single shot..

OOPS, col should have been stated as 3.738".

Ya, the Tikka has a 3.34" magazine, for a hunting load the 200gr AccuBonds load fine and have decent hunting accuracy. The stock barrel is 1:11 twist so handicapped to 210gr bullets, the A-Max's and 210gr Berger's run nearly identical. Going out in the am tomorrow to see how it goes.
BTW I have put the Yodave spring in and have a nice 1.1 lb trigger :)

78.1 grs of H 1000 produced an almost one hole 3 shot group, ES 20fps, this was with a standard LR match primer, same load with LR mag primer was not anywhere near as good. I guess I will fidget around the 78gr mark then play with seating depth.
