Does anyone know if it is possible to source an eye piece with a mil reticle for my Pentax PF65ED? I can't remember what the threads are or anything like that. A quick Gogle search has produced no results.

It's a great spotting scope and a mil reticle would be fantastic to help spot / correct for other shooters on the line.

This is all I could find in the instruction manual:

Any idea if one of the Vortex ones would work for example?

Please confirm but I believe the Pentax spotters use what is generically called astronomical eyepieces. I think it attaches with kind of bayonet type 1/2 twist set up.

So, if the Vortex, or any other spotter uses this type of install, it will work... or at least fit. Most spotters I have seen use a threaded eyepiece and they really aren't interested in interchanging.

Contact a specialty optics place like CameralandNY or maybe Plainsight on here.

Next problem will be the focusing set up....

I too would like to get some from of grid on my spotter but none are possible for Kowas that I am aware of. Not sure what a simple solution would be.

When shooting with someone, I just look through my scope.

The Pentax are indeed Astro eyepieces. 1.25" I think they're also called. No threads, just a smooth bore that gets locked down by a lock ring.

A reticled (is that a word??) eyepiece would be cool.

That Meopta eyepiece won't work without some sort of adaption (is that a word?).

There a thread on here about my 100ED, and in it is the name of a guy called Harry who is an optics genius and custom makes things. Maybe he could help??

Unless I'm looking at it wrong, it looks like the meopta threads on, the Pentax and Astros just slide in.

You'll start to run into focal length issues too. Those can be corrected, but it takes work.

I did find a company that makes eyepieces, but I can't imagine the cost..... opto-line.

Unfortunately the Meopta eye piece will not work in the Pentax I am 99% sure. Unless an adapter can be bought, as stated above.

Most Spotting scope manufacturer uses proprietary means of attachment for the eyepiece and are generally not interchangeable. This is how they can make more money of you...LOL

Your best option is to either look for a used or new S1, I believe there was one on the EE a while ago, and get the ranging reticle. Or there is an adapter for the S2 to retrofit the H75 eyepiece on it.

I would be interested in this as well. I have a PF80-EDa and a swack of eye pieces. XW-10, XW-7, XW-5, XW-3.5, but one with a reticle would be the bee's knees. I'm thinking of picking up a XW-14 soon for a bit of a wider view. I'm curious what all you other Pentax users are using for eyepieces.

Thanks,
Cal.

I have the Pentax 80 ED and a number of their eye pieces. I too was looking for one with a reticle and did some research on this last year. Result: no eyepiece available in North America ( didn't check elsewhere) is available for Pentax spotters.
