Eye Surgery

Got mine done about 6 hours ago. Went to sleep for a few hours and the blurriness is slowly diminishing.

Went to the bank to pull out some money. The halos are pretty big around lights but they should go away with time.

Anyways. I'm not supposed to be on here. All I can say is while up until now things are looking good this isn't a good investment for me.......I'm going to have to some more handguns now that I can see the target. :runaway:

The halos took a good six week to disappear at night time for me, then they just kinda of went away after that without notice.
It's been over 5 months since I got my eyes zapped, I went shooting four days in a row last week ago and I could see a small sticker patch perfectly on the target at the 18 yard line. My eyes have never been this good since I was a little boy. Like I said, it's been 5 months and I still can't believe they can achieve this kind of thing with science nowadays.

Congrats on the results ... wish this was available when I was much younger. The optometrist I just saw said I may not be the perfect candidate (age) ... I know that I am not as I was many moons ago ... So I beg the question to you OLDBADGER and others who have had this done ... HOW OLD ARE YOU?

I had PRK when I was 49, so I swapped glasses 99% of the time to correct distance vision to glasses just for reading or close up detail. I spend a lot of time in outdoor pursuits, so it was worth it for me. I have cheap reading glasses and a pair of progressives which I need to wear at work, but I don't need glasses the rest of the time. I had an astigmatism in both eyes but that was 100% corrected by the surgery. With a scope on my rifles, I don't need glasses but the rear sight on my pistol is not clear and it's not possible to use reading glasses to correct this. The sight would be clear but it shifts the point of aim. Maybe an optical sight would fix this, I don't know. I now have 20/15 vision in both eyes and had not had any side effects that I've noticed. Now, if I need to see something close up in focus, I need to have glasses nearby and because I don't always have them on me that can be a nuisance. But then the reason I don't have them on me is because I usually don't need them. Also, I know that compared to using my reading glasses, the instruments on the dashboard of my car are slightly blurred, but not enough to notice when I'm driving without glasses. I wish I could have had the surgery 30 years ago as I would have been totally free of glasses for most of that period. At this age it's more of a close call and depends what you do. For a truck driver it would be a good idea, for a computer an accountant, maybe not.

Hope that helps.

After reading here, I got PRK done at Pacific Laser on Broadway in Vancouver. was also recommeded to me by my eye doctor of 17 yrs, she sends all her family there.

The "pain" and discomfort associated with PRK instead of Lasik was, for me, non-existant; it was a major selling point mentioned by TLC Waterloo and London Place in vancouver area (both Lasik clinics) It was like having an eyelash stuck in your eye, but you got tylonol 3 and you just lie still on the couch. So wuss out and use that as an excuse for flap-and-zap if you want.

Took one day to stop mild discomfort, 3 days to be moving around the house, 5 days and I'm flying back to Toronto and driving the 401 to Kitchener. Not 20/20 right now but damn close. Close enough for RCMP vision standards.

Was $2700 and change when I showed them I'd applied to the feds (%10 off, no matter where you go dont forget to ask).

And no greasy sales pitch like at TLC or London Place. Mind you Pacific does both procedures, one doctor on staff for each. Whatever suits your situation.

Just curious, what was your prescription pre surgury?

I feel the same way. Everyday I wake up and look out side to see crystal clear buildings and what not in the distance. It's incredible. It was worth every nickel and dime.

I thought that the real incredible thing was how short the actual procedure took. 2 minutes to get the suction cup thing into the eye, 23 seconds under one laser, 30 seconds to flip the lense over, and another 20 seconds under the second laser. Another two minutes to flip the lense over and remove the suction cup thingy. Repeat all again.
Best 10 minutes of my life, no matter what the cost.

Not quite 3 months now, and I'm 20/20 in the left, and catching up with the right.
I only wish the results were opposite....the right is my shooting eye.

Same here, I think I was in the operating room for 15 mins total, I waited for about 5-6mins for the doctor to come in...seemed like one minute after the valium:runaway: ...My eyes went from 20/100 to 20/15, and I had my 6 month check up a couple days ago and I can read one line below 20/20 which is 20/15.:)
