F.A.S.T Times?

And the point is? You are practicing to emergency reload after two rounds?

Remember, as you train, you fight. God help you if you ever need three in a rush, 'cause you'll be screwing around doing an unnecessary reload. I always get a hoot out of Bill Jordan's account of a BP supervisor attending a major shootout on the Rio Grande, and his left hand sports jacket pocket filled to the brim with empties!

If you gotta test yourself against standards, have a bunch, all different, most solved in two or three shots, and do one, and only one, and then only on rare occasions. Everything else is just gaming.

Exactly who in this thread said that this drill is the only form of training that they do?

Hey since my shooting range doesn't allow any human silhouette targets, what do you guys recommend for the target?

Also I've been watching some videos and I'm wondering, would my IPhone be good enough to measure the time?

Follow the link below (take the space out of the http) and there is a 8.5x14 (legal size) target that you can download that has everything you need in a non-humanoid format.

I believe you can get a shot timer app for the i-phone. You need a proper timer or app so you can run the drill off the beep.

Edit: here's a free shot timer app:

I think it's stupid to train at all...if you ever need to shoot anyone, and they aren't wearing a target on their chest, you won't shoot them. Even if they are, what if they aren't standing in front of a backdrop of sand, railroad ties, or plywood?

The ONLY thing I will allow is that if the only individual timed drill you do with a timer behind your head is FAST, there is a chance that you'll automatically reload after two precise shots WHEN you are suddenly put in an individual timed drill situation that is similar to FAST. I have done that.

But if you only do FAST a maximum of 3 times a day, and you do lots of other stuff, you won't have that problem even if it's in a timed scenario run from a buzzer at the same range you always train at.

If it's in your house, and the "drill" starts with your kid screaming and you racing to your safe and desperately trying to get it open...you will not confuse it with the FAST drill unless the ONLY form of shooting you ever do is the FAST.

And if you're getting 5 second runs on FAST, it's not the only training you do.

check the link in my blog, i did a review on 2 free iphone shot timers

tim, add .3-.5 seconds to your time and you will have your draw from concealment and no D/O attachment from how the times varied that one night

Misanthropists fastest draws are actually not using the flick method, but the tofu blade method. (ok I added the tofu part, sue me).
If I remember correctly I did a few sub 5 runs with that same Arc jacket on.
This is a test, not a drill, you don't use this to practice, you use it to test your fundamental skill set. Emergency reloads, high probability hit targets vs low prob targets, rapid shots, transitions, draws. This test covers all those things.

Not necessarily Correct ...

All the good shooters will post times.

All the crappy shooters will not post on the thread, or if they do they will conspicuously omit to post a time.

Not knowing what the FAST drill was i have never shot it... I have shot numerous other drills... All shot with IPSC rig 40 S&W Tanfoglio LCII so no concealment.. my bad..

Bill Drill... Hands in surrender position draw and fire 6 shots in the A zone... Best time ever (non repeatable LOL) 1.48 sec... I cant do it under 2 now...

Bill Drill reload Bill drill... (hands in surrender position) That is 6 shots from holster reload 6 shots 5-7 yards... 4.83 sec was last wed ( I was sick with the flu LOL)

Triple Nickel...(hands in surrender position) two shots at each of 4 targets reload and then another 2 shots at the 5th.. (JJ Racaza drill done at 5 yards)... 4.48 sec (first time i shot it)
Supposed to try and get it under 5 secs

El Prez... Facing up range turn and draw and fire two shots at each of 3 targets reload and fire another two shots at each target (5-7 yards).. My best time is low 5 secs.. Cant do it under 5 and be accurate...LOL

I only practise IPSC style shooting until the week before an IDPA event..then i break out my IDPA gear... LOL..

That is true, my draws are faster with blade than flick. I believe my fastest fast was with the flick just because of my greater familiarity with the flick.

And yeah, I think you had a 4.86 with that jacket. It's very slick and really gets out of the way. Actually it's a great garment for the tofu blade, never hangs up on anything. I find the flick works better on other fabrics.

The flick is just the Costa-style "grab the corner of your jacket and toss it out of the way" move. I usually use that, although I admit the tofu blade is faster. I find the flick works better with more garments.

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the people on here that think they're 'shooters' couldn't do a clean 8 second F.A.S.T. if their life depended on it.

Just did 2 fast rus before skills as drills tonight, blade tech holster under a soft shell jacket with a cz shadow. First run was 4.97 second was 4.65. I'll take that. I have been shooting a lot this week though.
