F ing. porcupines

I had a Golden Lab Whippet cross and she used to sit there and let me pull the quills out of her face. She didn't learn to leave Porkys and Skunks alone. The terrier never touched them for some reason. Oh and do not boot a Porky with rubber boots on.

Thankfully I've never had a porcupine incident. The wife's dumb Shepard mut did bring a live skunk into the porch once though

But hey if anyone wouldn't mind sending me some quills I'd gladly pay the shipping. Every time I go north I always look for roadkill and never seem to find any

I've pulled a pile of quills over the years. You don't need a vet unless he has them where you can't get at them to pull them out when he's awake.
If he let you pull them out without a fuss I expect you won't have to pull any again...smart dogs learn.

This is normally the case.

I had a yellow lab, that I got from an acquaintance with a face full of infected quills that had not been worked on, that had an absolute raging hatred of porcupines.

The dog got into them at least seven times in his life that I know of, four times almost dying from having his mouth and throat completely blocked from quills, 300 - 400 pulled by the vet each time. Despite several near death experiences, at a cost of around $350 to me each time, this dog would go completely berserk and instantly attack porcupines on sight until the day he died.

My guys would likely come up from behind and get a mouthful. Porcs are my biggest concern.... the 22 sits on the table all day looking in the bush, and when we are walking the 22 or shotgun are in hand.
