F.N. Military 98 Mauser ?

Came across a military configured 98 Mauser made by F.N. in Herstal.
The rifle needs a good clean-up as it looks quite rough as is, decent bore however.
My question is how scarce and collectible are these - IMHO priced a bit high at $350
for the shape it's in.

Any insight / comments would be appreciated. --- John
 
FN made many different models for many different countries. What sort of crest/markings are on the receiver other than F.N. Herstal?

350 is sort of an average price but it really depends on condition, what model, and what country. Pics or a better description would really help.
 
Thank you for the reply jb, you've pretty much answered my questions. They aren't that rare but the price
is not way out of line either. I don't think it had any crest on the front ring and the barrel was about 22 1/2
to the receiver ring - so would that be considered a carbine? Wasn't really thinking about buying at the time
but got to thinking - no doubt you know how that goes.
Kind of taken by the old clunk - so I may try to make a deal. --- John
 
"...that be considered a carbine?..." No, but it should have a 24" barrel. What's it's chambering? Like jbmauser says, FN made hordes of K98's. One of the downsides of running a firearms business where the neighbours invade every 20 years.

Funny, I'm sure I've seen a FN Mauser with a 20 1/2" barrel somewhere before?
