F T R .223 for 90 grainers

savage makes a FTR in .223 with a 1 in 7 twist, does anybody know ifit is throated for the 90 grainers, as I want to buy one to play with and try things and not have to worry about getting a ding in the thousand dollar stock, or scratching it up (as my competition guns are carefully handled)

anybody know for sure, (Jerry might but he may be busy and I do not want ot bother him)

and if any dealer has stock (if not I will order from local gun store)

Friend has one and it shoots the 80gr Bergers like a house on fire, he shot a 5 shot group at 400m just a tad over 1".he has not tryed 90grs
Another fellow has one his throat is short and he has to seat bullets way to far in case he crunching powder, big time.(not good)
Just take your savage to any good smith who has a throating reamer and seat a 90gr at app 2.600+-

As said above, work - YES.

Ideal? NO

If using Varget, should be fine. Anything slower, not ideal case volume.

Launch some lead, see what you think. Like it, throat longer, use slower powder, open the throttle.

Otherwise, the difference is about 100fps which isn't the end of the world.

90's at 2700fps have no problem going beyond 1000yds.

I was shooting 90 grain sierra's out to 900 meters last sunday with my savage LRVP 1 in 7


Jeromeo if TrxR is talking about who I think he is, he shoot 90 grain bergers very well
 
They are finicky bullet to get to work like no other!
After 3 years 900 lapua brass & 1000s of bullets the Bergers work the JLK are a all togeather different bullet easyer to get to work but had problems with some not working
 
Hey Jeff once you shoot that savage you'll think of all your other stuff as junk, you should still have my mailing address so just send it out and I'll take care of it for you.

Your going to try to break into F class with the most finicky cartridges to load and tune, but hey gray hair and no hair can make it all come togeather
 
The key is a quality scale. Without that, it is a pita.

But once you have your charges weighed properly, no extra work then any other match chambering.

As load data gets figured out, the working range will be no better no worse then anything else.

The big change was in the bullets. The Berger VLD is more fussy but do fly very nicely onced tuned. The Berger BT is easy to set up.

The JLK is a gem but slow to get.

Look forward to see how the 223's do at Connaught.

detour is OK

ordered a ftr in 223 from local sporting goods store and it will be 4-6 months so next year is fine,

i bought an f-tr in .223 this year, epps had one in stock

i haven't shot any 90s in it yet but 80s are shooting very well

ps, i bought a cheap box of rem umc 55 grs to sight my scope it, bad idea best i could do was a 4 3 inch group at 100

No he didn't, he just finally came to his senses, buy something you can shoot out of the box or buy something that you can spend all your money on until you have something you can shoot. Its the better meathod of mentoring new shooters into a dying sport......we need more members of team savage :D
 
If you think F-Class is DYING, BR is worse. We maybe have 20 active shooters in Western Canada and I think 2 of us are under 50. That is dying.............

It won't stop me though. I will travel states side to shoot against the best in the world.
