I just bought this shotgun on CGN a few weeks back, ordered the Picatinny rail for it from The Shooting Edge and then the TDI Picatinny Mount and Surefire G2 light from eBay along with some extra batteries. Shotgun is a Fabarm Martial FP6 with 14" Smooth Bore Barrel.

looks good, but why doens't someone make a laser or flashlight cap for the mag tubes on shotguns? that would be uber cool!

I was thinking that actually, would be a nice addition but I'm fine with the current setup.

I've seen a laser end cap before - forget who makes it. But I don't you need a laser on a shotgun except maybe to scare the #### out someone you point it at.;)

Oh, I'd never aim my shotgun at someone, I use it just for hunting rabbits. ;)

Uh huh. And the flashlight is for scaring them rabbits in the dark, right??

Nope, just to see better when walking in the woods at dusk... Safety first!

Sparhawk hit the nail on the head...do not shoot with that light on very often.....there is no shock isolation for the batteries or the bulb.....you may wanna considerbuying 2-3 spare bulbs for that light (at 25-30.00 each depending on where you buy them). I would be surpised if you gout more than 2 full mags through the gun before pooching the light.

does that apply to rifles (ie 5.56/223) too, or is it just 12 ga?

ANY light not intended as a weaponlight is hit and miss.....that said some are more hits than misses...I would suggest that the G2 on an AR is going to be relatively OK...better with Z32 shock isolated bezel.....DO NOT BE SURPRISED if your bulb goes....you will also know why it went too.

12 ga recoil is a killer on no shock isolated lights.

would an led (no filament) flashlight be better for shotgun applications?

Nobody that I am aware of are using them on shotguns that have advertised it. I would think they would be great on the shotgun. I have a Surefire M952XM05 That I put a KL5 LED head on it. I would use that both on my AR and 11878 without hesitation. The drawback to LED is that it is crap for outdoor work longer than typical CQB distances...they dont have the throw for it.....Incandescent 9 volts rule at that...but they are bigger. You could however get away with the setup shown on the first page with something like a surefire X200A...not the B version...the TIR lens would buy you some longer distance in the A model. still doesnt compare with the incandescents though.

Surefire sells a conversion kit for the G2, changes the head with an LED lamp. That might be better for the shotgun application...

I have an E2e Executive SureFire mounted to a Litemount Tech mount attached to my 2 round extension tube.
I can tell you for certain that after hundreds of various rounds fired, the bulb is just fine. If it dies, so what, the gun still works!

It works so well for me, I'm looking to buy the shorter E1e SF for my one round extension equipped gauge.

Regards.

Interesting..this is the enigma of some Surefire lights doing dual roles.....sometimes they can take it...more often they cant.....About putting on the LED head on the G2...this will work but you will not have battery isolation. If the batteries start bashing around, they may damage the LED head's base. Expensive trial IMHO.

I should mention that I use some black shrink tubing to marry the two batteries as one unit. It tightens up the fit in the flashlight body and maybe prolongs bulb life??

Regards.
