No XCR's in 7.62 (I assume you mean 7.62x39) yet either. The 6.8SPC kits should be out soon though, then 12" barrels :p

At least two years from now, based on what was quoted from a FN rep on the internet. IMHO, We should not expect any until FN goes beyond the first batch of testing purchase.

Word to the wise: Assault rifles cannot be purchased with a restricted licence. True assault rifles are select fire (ie. burst or auto). What you're looking for is a semi-auto military rifle. Also, for the time being the FN SCAR is just a dream.

I do believe that the marking scheme bit was put on the back-burner once the Cons. came into power no?

Nope, comes into effect this December. Peter MacKay has said nothing about pulling out of the agreement and for all intents, seems to think it is a good idea. This is why the 1000 letter challenge was launched.

k so no FN SCAR , gotcha, and no 7.62 kits avaliable yet either.... that answers part of my question but i didnt see any 'suggestions' for alternatives yet?.... thanks

Go buy yourself a Swiss Arms PE-90 Classic Green or Black Special. One of the best, most robust and accurate semi-auto "military" style rifle on the market. Its also non-restricted & I believe a better firearm than the SCAR, which holds absolutely zero interest for me. Everybody wants a SCAR right now, because of the novelty factor and they can't have 'em. We're seeing something similar right now, as everybody is clambering for a TAVOR as well...Don't get me wrong; kudos for Can-Am to introduce another rifle to the Canadian market, but I wonder how many will be showing up in the EE 6-8 weeks after the first shipment lands and the novelty wears off?

5.56x45: Tavor vs G-36? the G-36 I would pay $3,000 for.
7.62x51: HK-91 or SIG 540 s/a (made in Chile) vs M-14 or AR-10? The former two I would pay $3,000 for. Only the M-14 and AR-10 again to choose from here in Canada; same old rifles for the Cdn market.
Choices are limited in .30 cal semi-automatic rifles.
