Face camo when gun hunting for deer?

I recently read an article that recommended wearing a camo face mask while gun hunting and wearing blaze orange. I wear a mask all the time while crossbow hunting. I even wore my mask a couple of times during last years rifle season for deer, but I figured it was somewhat pointless.

Does anyone out there wear their face camo with their blaze orange? Do you find it helpful?

What reasons did the article give for suggesting that a camo face mask be worn?
 
Well yeah... I wear a face mask all the time... although I think Blaze Orange is detrimental to concealment... I know for sure that your face is very easy for a deer to see.
Most face camo is shiney and reflects light... this does very little to hide your profile from deer... use a mask.

Same here. I wear a light camo balaclava when bow hunting, but during the rifle or blackpowder hunt I dont bother. If a deer spots my face, he is usually close enough that they would wind you first.
 
Hi,

When I first started to hunt for deer, I was bowhunting so the face mask or camo makeup was to way to go. I now hunt mostly with my rifle but kept the habit of wearing either a mask or face painting.

Now my hunting partners start to do the same as they see the difference when they look at me from farter away. It cuts the head shape and makes the eyes harder to spot and distinguish.:cool:

Maybe it's not necessary while rifle hunting as many shots are done from longer distance but the occasional close shot is still quite possible so I almost always wear one for either deer and/or moose hunting. :)

There is nothing more rewarding to be able to observe game at close range without been spotted.

When you have to move, either to keep from cramping up or to have a look around, there's always a chance an animal close by will spot you. The most likely reason is the weakest link for any hunter who hunts the forest floor - the face beacon. This past year I took the advice of bow hunters I was with and took to donning a camo face mask, the kind turkey hunters wear. Other then hunting Turkeys camo is pretty much a marketing gimmick.
Animals rely more on smells, sound and movement detection then color differences.
Ive got an old bow hunting video with Chuck Adams and the guy hunts in a fleece farmer shirt and jeans and he is said to be one of the best bow hunters.:confused:

I use a camo head net for bowhunting. But I don't wear orange when bowhunting either. I just got a scent-lok camo head net I'm anxious to try.
 
I red something like that in one of the french-canadian hunting magazines. They said that a white face made it easier for deer to spot you and identifie you. I may try it next season. I figure it may give you a few extra seconds to take a well placed shot.
