I was lucky enough to find my dads old deer rifle (stashed away in the storage bin). Hopefully will take it deer hunting this fall. Where we hunt most shots are under a hundred yards. Any sugestions as far as factory ammo goes-bullet types - various mfg's Thx for your help.

Winchester 180 gr Power Point or Remington 180 gr corelokt. Both have great reputations and take the back seat to none on deer or moose. Federal's 180 gameshok are excellent too.

cheers Darryl

Just about any 30-06 ammo will work on deer with the appropriate bullet weight (usually 150 - 180 grain). Try a few different brands / weights and try to pick the one that is most accurate out of your rifle. Then go make your Dad proud!

165gr Winchester soft points in the 06 for me, plenty good for moose too if your shooting under 200yds. Factory ammo is cheap for the 06, pick yourself up a few different brands and see what groups the best and stick with it. Good luck

I found the 180 gr power points blew gaping holes in them at any range, knocked them all dead though. 150's shot really well in my 06.

Take the rifle out to the range and experiment. As we all know every gun has its own "happy load". Mine loves 180 grain Silvertips but does not like 180 Federal soft points? Just get out there and do it!!!

Deer are easy to kill, and out to a hundred yards, anything will be accurate enough. So, grab something cheap. Federal fusions come to mind
