I know people will buy them but it just seems a bit much, thats like a whole other gun.

Supply and demand.
If supply increases than the price will drop:stirthepot2:.

What dealer has 14" factory barrels? Are they Remington?

I'm the one selling them, they are genuine Remington barrels. As you know they aren't very common. I was able to get another 6 of them but I had to pay a premium just to get them. I think I sold them for $295 last time they came in. These ones cost me $30 more than the last batch.

I agree the price is high, but that didn't stop me from buying one. I just wanted an all factory 870.

The Dlask ones were $300 when they came out, so it's in the neighbourhood price wise. I think the new NEA ones coming out will be a little less, but still in the $270 range.

Things like that, they cost what they cost. If you don't mind the chinese ones CanAm has the 12.5 barrels for $149. But if you want original Remington, you're gonna pay, and if you don't, someone else will.

I understand from reading here that the Dlask barrels (ChiCom as well?) are also heavier than Remington.

The dlask units are not made in china, but there are some draw backs.
Over sided so most forends need alot of work to fit them, the black finish is not all that nice.

Factory is Factory, the remington bbls are a steal at that price for the same reason a colt ar15 M4 1/7 BBL is worth $600 not $250.
Buy withing your price range.
Nothing wrong the china come bbls, but the finish is s**t, chamber rough and front site is not that good.

I have used lots of the china come bbls, but if u look at it this way, with out looking at the QC of the remington bbl, just to bring the china com bbl up to par it would come out like this.
China come bbl say... $160
Polish chamber and barrle $60
Bead blast and parkerised $75
Dril and tap loc-tite new front site $30
$325.00

I just bought a 12-1/2" barrel for my 870 from Dlask and it was nearly as heavy as the 28" factory barrel that I removed. As for the price on these 14" barrels - considering they're Remington factory units, the price is reasonable. Good things cost, and a short-barreled shotgun is indeed a good thing!

I think its time for some stickies in the black and green shotgun forum! You can fire foster, AKA rifled slugs through any choke, though full is usually recomended as a limit. The rifling allows the slug to compress as it passes through the choke constriction, and the hollow cavity in the rear makes it nose heavy so that it will fly straight like a badminton birdy. Sabot slugs require a fully rifle barrel or rifled choke tube to spin stabalize the rear-heavy rifle bullet, so that it doesnt tumble.

Modified is the best choke for these 14" barrels, in my humble opinion. I'm just glad I scored my 870P with 14" mod barrel for a little less than $400 total a few years back. ;)

The barrels are the teats. You can't own them in the US without the special paperwork that the ATF makes you fill out. They can keep their AK's - I'll take the SBS's anyday!

No kidding. That's quite the difference.

There are several reasons the Remington is worth the money:

1) It will fit. There have been reprorts of fit issues with the aftermarket or Asian barrels.

2) The benefits of the modified choke were described earlier but another advantage is that it proves the barrel was factory made and not cut.

3) Remington proof tests its barrels to SAAMI specs.

4) It will match (maybe). Generally the finished on a parkerized Remington barrel is closer to the finished of a parkerized receiver.

I bought a used 14" modified choke barrel with rifle sights a few years ago and paid slightly less than being charged here for the brand new bead sighted version. If I didn't have it I'd buy one of these in an instant.
