So what? Because it is a short shotgun barrel, it is a controlled product that you or I cannot ever dream of getting an export permit for from the US DOS... The hoops that have to be jumped through and the headaches and hassles around the paperwork for Chemist to bring these in easily justifies the price. I really don't see any price gouging going on here.

I really don't see any price gouging going on here.

Especially considering they are only a few dollars more then certain 14" non-factory 870 barrels made right here in CANADA! Personally, I'd pay $30 bucks more to get the real Remington barrel.

I got mine a week ago and with the modified choke, I can shoot clays just as well as my 18" barrel.

I use a dlask 14" barrel, it's pricey, but worth it, I can keep the slugs on a sheet of 8-1/2" X 11" paper at 100 yards usually. scary. I did have to sand out the barrel channel of my remington forearm though as previously mentioned, but really, it's not that big of a job.

I think its time for some stickies in the black and green shotgun forum! You can fire foster, AKA rifled slugs through any choke, though full is usually recomended as a limit. The rifling allows the slug to compress as it passes through the choke constriction, and the hollow cavity in the rear makes it nose heavy so that it will fly straight like a badminton birdy. Sabot slugs require a fully rifle barrel or rifled choke tube to spin stabalize the rear-heavy rifle bullet, so that it doesnt tumble.

I second you on the stickie, I'm new to the shotgun world and I just purchased a near new 1952 Remington 870 Wingmaster along with a second barrel to cut down. I'm still trying to determine what I can and what I can't throw down the different barrels/choke combinations.

If we can loosen up the US and their strict gun policies we could have the shorter barrels produced in the masses and the piece would drop big time.

I had a Dlask 14" barrel for a time that was on an 870 used for backpacking. It was well made and the chamber was decent. IT WAS HEAVY!!! I happily paid the money for a factory Remington and lost ounces. I never weighed the two barrels before I sold the Dlask, but I can tell you there was a significant weight difference.

Important to consider if you are one of the few who Backpack or wilderness-carry in the mountains with your 870 IMHO.
