Just got back from the range with my new chrony. :D

I was trying to get the hang of things (being very cautious) and was shooting some factory Remington .223. A couple of shots really caught my attention.

I shot only one 10 shot group. The average velocity was around 3150 fps for 8 shots but two of them were around 875 fps. I didn't notice anything significantly different while shooting.

The unit worked fine on the other calibers I tested from .22 to my handloads in 3 calibers.

Is this an anomaly or has anybody else seen the same?

Or am I doing something wrong?

For whatever reason, the Chrony didn't give a correct reading. Don't worry about it. Highly unlikely that was the actual velocity.

+1.

I've chrony'd a 170gr 30-30 at >3500 ft/s.:D

May want to play with the height of the sun shades, or remove them depending on the lighting.

Also, make sure your chrony is COMPLETELY unfolded.

if it was subsonic, you'd have no doubt whatsoever without needing a chrony. It's sound different - be MUCH quieter, and almost zero recoil (like a 22lr)
