"Factory Refurbished" Sig P220s" are they safe?

conseil

yes it is my first handgun. I don't really like the Norinco handguns, they have a lousey finish and generally look bad. They have some nicer ones that have been tuned up a little bit, but those ones are approaching the price of the sigs i like, and i would have to wait for them to come in the mail....

So Oui, C'est mon premier pistol.

is buying a sig .45 a problem if it my first pistol? What is the significance of my purchase being my first handgun. Should i be looking for something in a smaller caliber or different model/format?

Thanks for the input TG, I am a little nervous/confused about buying my first handgun and could use some advice on what to pick up.

Salut, What I would recommand is to try some before buying, try different type and caliber, and see what suit you the best. No point buying a 1200$ pistol that you don't like

mes 2 cents . :p

For a first HG I would buy a 22, mine was a Ruger MKII. They are cheap to shoot. After that i would start with whatever 9mm fits your hand well.

Sig 220 is a great great gun. If you are looking for a .45, I am sure that either a Sig 220 or 1911 will be you best bet. I am not a believer of .22 as a first gun but ofcourse it is good to have one if you want to kill more time in the range. I am a very small person start with .357mag revolver and has no problem and I think a .45 is just fine for anybody. Save up some Starbuck money and get a new one.

yeah, i've been shooting long guns since i was 5, so i'm not so timid as to be interested in a .22 rimfire pistol for a first handgun. I can handle a handle a hand-canon (ie; .45 in anything).

Thanks alot for all the input and advice all.

What do you say about a first .45 pistol with a 1000$ budget:

1) sig 220

2) STI trogan

3) Kimber custon 2

Merci mes amis!

x2 on the p220. This was my first handgun. When I first started shoping I asked several of my club "elders" for advice. All of them said don't get a 9mm as a first gun, some suggested a 22. Having shot 22 in rifle for a couple of decades I really wanted a centerfire pistol so I got a p220 in 45. What I didn't figure out until later was that most of the"elders" were bullseye shooters and thought an appropriate first gun was 38 revolver and were somewhat horrified :eek:that i picked a 45. I love shooting the 45, no regrets.
Look Ma, no flinch;)

I have a heel release version of the Sig 220 in .45ACP. It is one of my 'never sell' pistols and I've owned it close to 20 years. It is very accurate and dead reliable. If it's your first pistol save a little longer and buy a new one because I'm sure that it'd be one of your 'never sell' pistol as well.

nikitaylor,

Anyone can handle a hand canon if they know how to shoot! The idea behind the 22lr is that you can have fun and learn without taking a mortage out on the house.

Ammo is expensive, very expensive... 1k of .45 is about 350 (cheapest I found) on a per box at the range it will run you 25 - 27 per 50 rounds, thats 54 dollars per 100, you know how fast you will go thru that ???

No the 22 lr is a nice caliber to start with a handgun. a brick of 500 rounds will set you back 20 bucks..

Learn with the 22lr, its the best starter out there I have 3 22lr pistols and always looking for a good deal..

I have Sigs, CZ, Kimbers, Colts, HK in both 9 and 45 and a Glock, and the 22 are just as much if not more fun to shoot. In 22 lr I have ruger 22/45 , and 2 Vostoks.. All are just great shooters.

Ohhh any gun that groups well is just a beautiful piece.. Looks account for absolutely nothing in this sport.. ( I am sure some will chime in) but a nice looking gun will not shoot better or worse, it will do what it is built to do. The rest is up to you, and yes practice is the only way to get to have nice "tightgroup"s

Also get a gun that fits your hand, this is so important.. The grip, and trigger control is 75% of your shot..

Take your time, try as much as you can,

As for your choices of Sig Kimber or STI are all different ..

Try also some 9's if you wish centerfire,, cheaper on the ammo.. A nice Glock, try a CZ SP 01, great accurate shooter.

In 1911 patterns there are so many to choose from, all have their good points and their faults..

But the HK .45 acp is by far the most duarble and easiest to maintain.. Simple solid performer, no hiccups, no misfeeds, no problems, just make sure the grip fits your hand.

Sigs are very nice and very accurate shooters, also check the grip,

For now, I really just want something good looking that punches big holes in targets.

Lol, theres a scene from "American Beauty" where the real estate king asks Annette Benning, "do you know what i do when i feel stressed out? I fire a gun."

Thats all i'm looking for right now. Something big and bad that i can take to the range to get my blast on and admire when i take home. It's really a toss-up right now between the 220 and the Trogan. I know the ammo is going to be spendy but i'm OK with that.

I have heard good things about the HK. Thanks for the advice tight. Merci.

Buy a new P220. That's where you"ll end up anyway. I go to the range once a week and blast off a 100 rounds. 30 bucks, big deal.

ok... if I understand properly, tu es MACHO? just kiddin, but if you can't shoot it before buying, make sure it feels confy in your hand.

Enjoy your hand cannon ! :50cal:

I'm with TG on the 22lr...

When I go to the range, I want my groups to be as small as possible (and NO, I don't like shooting at 5M to make it easier)... a 22lr will allow to practice and pratice some more, without breaking the bank.

Of course, if money wasn't an issue, you could shoot 45acp to your hearth content, but then again, you wouldn't worry about trying to save a few $ on a refurbish pistol...

Personnaly, when my goal going to the range is to relax, this is what I bring

It's pretty good at making big holes in paper target, and 30 to 50 rounds will always shake off the little tension I might have :D

Tell me more about the Norinco 1911A1 pistols. I have owned a bunch of 45acp pistols, I sold my P220, and I kept both of my Norincos. Where did I go wrong? I am here to tell you either of my Norincos will out shoot any P220 I have shot and that is with my Norincos: "...still wearing ...a lousy finish and generally look(ing) bad."

Why don't I like Norinco 1911s... I guesse i'm just a snob! I'm also new to the game and I would like something that comes out of the box looking right that i don't have to modify to look or to shoot nice.

I fell in love with 1911's the first time i saw a stainless S&W 1911PD tactical rail series with black checkered grips at lever arms in Vancouver - thats why the norinco 1911's make me sort of cringe. Sure i could buy a N-1911, an N-226 and an N-CZ for probably around the same price as a new S&W 1911PD or a new Sig 220, but it would just not make me happy. I need a big shiny .45that I can fondle while i'm at home and polish up and admire. I'm not into IPSIC yet and i'm really just looking for something with lots of, dare i say it...### APPEAL!!! :)

I know that must sound horrible and immature to some people on this thread, but i just feel like Norinco EVERYTHING has 0.0 ### APPEAL. Even if i am a monster for being such a silly snob when it comes to pistols, can people at least see where i'm coming from?

Like, I am even shying away from Kimber 1911s because they dont have the right look. Plus, I am not a patient person and I know nothing about gunsmithing or modifying handguns, so I'm not so much interested in buying teeny-tiny little parts and extra mags and new grips and new trigger stuff and new sights from marstar, waiting for them to be shipped, and then putting them onto my 350$ N-1911 with technical know how that I just don't have ;)

Also, like alot of people on CGN i suppose, I am saving up money by avoiding starbucks and surviving off of kraft diner and multi-vitamins so I can buy the guns that make me smile. Hahahaha. So, I am kind of emotionally invested in my investment when it comes to buying a .45.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Marstar has such good deals on Nornico clones right now that I am very tempted. However, I must resist China's knockoff version of Satan whispering in my ear everytime I visit the site, 'C'mon, its cheap, it doesn't look thaaat bad...BUY IT NOW... didi-mow!' for the moment and get back to eating my KD and ground beef so I can buy a kick ass F-ing .45 pistol that I can worship for it's beauty and impress my friends with.

Ok, thats enough out of me for now. Tight, they made me watch those movies in gun school, theyre pretty ###. Sorry dude. BUT, thanks to all: CZ, Silly, Tight and Rich for adding their two cents. I will have enough cash soon for a sweet piece, and its taking all of my willpower not to cave in to Norinco.

LOL. Talk to you guys later,

Niki.

I to enjoy having a nice gun (Just bought a 229Elite) so I can understand the desire, however I started back into shooting with Norinco and still enjoy shooting them. Plus I smile everytime I think how little I paid for my 1911C

Not being able to hit the paper will get old real fast.......:)

Niki, I am sorry but I flat ass do not think you know what you are talking about. What do I mean? Do a critique on my Kimber or Dan Wesson, I need to know your opinion of what is wrong with these. Regards, Richard:D

Hi Rich. Ok, there is noting wrong with either of those pistols, its just that I prefer the aesthetics of the S&W 1911PD pistol to thos two guns. It's a simple matter of personal taste.

As for a critique of those two pistols: I don't like the look of the grip safety on the Kimber; it looks kind of cheap and neglected, like it performs the function of being a grip safety without blending into the overall aesthetic balance of the gun. It just looks like a chunck of misplaced plastic sticking out of the back of the handle. I, personally don't like that.

With regards to the Dan Wesson: It looks kind of chunky and unbalanced. Like it's fat in the wrong place or something. Like the handle is not long enough for the slide. The lines on it (like the lines on a car) do not appeal to me either.

This is my dream 1911. For me, it is the best looking example of the 1911 out there.
1911_OTOA_Engraved_lg.jpg

Now, what can anyone possibly say is WRONG with this gun? To me, it looks perfect. Function and looks are combined in a perfect package. You must admit, it is beautiful. :)

For me, it is just a matter of personal taste. It's like asking me, 'do you prefer the look of a 2008 chevy silverado over a 2008 GMC Sierra?' Assuming that all things regarding the trucks remain equal, ie; engine size, interior, ect... The only way I can possibly choose is to pick the one that looks best to me.

So, there is nothing wrong with your Kimber or your Dan Wesson, they just aren't my cup of tea. I simply have a different preferance.
