Niki, in the end I bow to your vast experience. Regards from your American Cousin, Richard
Hi Rich. Ok, there is noting wrong with either of those pistols, its just that I prefer the aesthetics of the S&W 1911PD pistol to thos two guns. It's a simple matter of personal taste.
As for a critique of those two pistols: I don't like the look of the grip safety on the Kimber; it looks kind of cheap and neglected, like it performs the function of being a grip safety without blending into the overall aesthetic balance of the gun. It just looks like a chunck of misplaced plastic sticking out of the back of the handle. I, personally don't like that.
With regards to the Dan Wesson: It looks kind of chunky and unbalanced. Like it's fat in the wrong place or something. Like the handle is not long enough for the slide. The lines on it (like the lines on a car) do not appeal to me either.
This is my dream 1911. For me, it is the best looking example of the 1911 out there.![]()
Now, what can anyone possibly say is WRONG with this gun? To me, it looks perfect. Function and looks are combined in a perfect package. You must admit, it is beautiful.
For me, it is just a matter of personal taste. It's like asking me, 'do you prefer the look of a 2008 chevy silverado over a 2008 GMC Sierra?' Assuming that all things regarding the trucks remain equal, ie; engine size, interior, ect... The only way I can possibly choose is to pick the one that looks best to me.
So, there is nothing wrong with your Kimber or your Dan Wesson, they just aren't my cup of tea. I simply have a different preferance.
