What's a fair price to pay for used/exc STI Trojan 9mm? Considering that Armco sells them for brand new at $1,099 [+ tax & shipping of course].

Local shop just took one in on consignment but the seller figures it's worth ~ $1,400 at retail as used/exc................

It's regretable that we pay a premium for a gun and then it goes on sale for hundreds of dollars less and because we paid that much we should expect to get it.
AND consignment guns have to have tax paid on them.
Dlask will build you a custom gun for that money.

Maybe the poor deluded soul is from Australia. They pay a premium of $800 to $1000 over any price you pay here for Colts, Smiths etc. Used, that STI shouldn't be more than $800 tops when for a bit more you can get one new.

I usually use 80% of retail as a good rule of thumb, when valueing used stuff in excellent condition. It it is mint, barely been fired, I might go to 90% if it was something I really wanted.

I have one better than that. I found a used (stock) Norinco NZ-85B on consignment for $600.00 at my local gun store. Since Marstar sells them new for $350.00, I just wonder where this guy's head is at.

They're just waiting for some sap that doesn't do their homework on the net to just jump in and buy it.

High prices

Chances are high that the consignment shop owner knows nothing about the new price of guns although it should be his job to find out these things. The gun owner probably went in the store with an original receipt where he probably paid a high price and the consignment shop owner priced it accordingly. It's hard to say, there was a time that good deals could be found in consignment and pawn shops but the norm now seems to be that most items can be purchased new for less money than you can get them for at these shops used.

There's a gun shop in our town that sells everything at a relatively high price. The shop is a social hub for a die-hard group of old shooters who've decided that wholesale sports is evil, and that they should spend more of their money in order to support "local" business.

Supporting local business is cool. But, the cool factor wears off pretty quickly when you spend $19.99 for a box of UMC 9mm. Let's see, now how much is that over at wholesale? Oh yeah, $11.99. Hmmm, a difference of $8, eh? I get it now.... The local guy is a price gouger who thinks I'm an idiot. I think I'll stop off at the Walmart, on my way to Wholesale Sports, and spend that $8 on something my family needs.
