Apparently it has to do with the manufacture dates. The S was earlier than the N and fit, finish and general quality is said to be of a higher standard.

I strongly recommend that you keep at least one of those pistols. I have a feeling it would be unwise to lose one's restricted license, but perhaps that's just paranoia.
I'd keep the Ruger, if it were me.
I think what Steve was getting at was that due to potential uncertainty in the next few years legislation-wise it might be a good idea to hold onto a restricted in case there's current-owner grandfathering like the 12.x licenses from the 1990s.why would a person lose their restricted license just because they do not own a restricted firearm at some point in time? Losing your ATT I can see, but not the license.
