Fair Weather Waterfowl Shotgun

Well, being 6'5" tall with a reasonably long neck I'm pretty sure that I need something long. My mystery German is 14" and I can make that work (it's a bit short if you're just in a shrt but not unshootable) but my Coggie (see the bragging thread) is 14.25" but not nearly enough drop at the comb for me to get the bead down to the rib...so they had better be jumping and going straight up! SO I guess, all things being equal, the 15" range might be right but I've never been properly measured.

And yet again the suggestion of an 870 finds its way into a thread from an OP looking for a “classic double”. :jerkit:

In case you are confused the tube under the barrel on an 870 is a magazine tube not a bottom barrel! Hell I own over unders and even I’ll be the first to say they don’t fall under the category of “classic doubles” in my opinion.....and there is nothing “classic” or “double” about an 870 except maybe double the price of what they are actually worth.

Nah, Rob's not actually suggesting an 870 (nor is he so deluded to believe that I don't already have one), merely pointing out the dichotomy between a Model 21 with outstanding wood that you only take out on bluebird days and a completely utilitarian (though potentially very well made) field tool being able to do the same job equally well, or possibly better

And, of course, he knows that Harleys require minimal investment in time or money to keep them running satisfactorally.

Might I suggest while you :jerkit: you refrain form eating :popCorn:as you may rub it raw.
Got something to say spank feel free to start your own thread.

Bum, have you checked out any of the Suhls from Tradex ?
Rob

Anxiously awaiting your next 870 recommendation post just like in all your other posts......d:h:

While B.U.M. did try to let you off the hook, it's like you haven't read anything he has posted.

On another thread, apropos to this, someone said it's human nature to recommend what we know. Hell, I think ya'll should pick a vintage double everytime you reach for a shotgun. But despite that, I try to refrain from recommending them when someone starts a thread asking what is the latest and greatest semi auto 3 1/3" cannon for dropping geese at 80-100 yards.

The same holds true for suggesting Browning BSS's or what Tradex has from Suhl, as those things are definitely NOT vintage, nor are they American. BTW, Rob, Suhl is a place where they make guns, not a type or make of gun.

So taking your own advice, perhaps you should start a thread about the joys of 870's. I know something about them as I have shot more birds with a 870 Wingmaster than all my other shotguns combined. Lots of joy to talk about. But not in a thread requesting recommendations and knowledge about vintage American (and other) SxS to substitute for a M21 that could be used for goose shooting.

BTW, I appreciate and thank you for your earlier compliments. I don't mean to be picking on you....I'm just astounded at the frequency with which people ask for advice here and others, who clearly either don't know what they are talking about or didn't read the OP, chime in with less than useful advice or direction. Which is fine when talking to someone like B.U.M who clearly knows more than he lets on.....but sometimes rank newbies are asking the questions and bad or useless advice helps no one.
