Fake Can?

I recently read some info on here regarding attaching a fake suppressor to cover the barrel on a non-restricted 858 to make it look like a shorter barrel.

I've searched, again, to no avail.

Are there kit's I can buy to do this?

Would you be able to shed some more light on these options?

Rails?

You can PM me if you don't feel like being public.

Thanks.

(ETA, I now understand)

I'm not saying you can't or you shouldn't, put a fake can on your gun. I am curious though, as to why, you would want to? I'll support anything safe and legal, which means, so long as you're prepared to deal with any attention you will be drawing to yourself, I support you choice to do so. I just don't get why? Can you enlighten me, please.
I try to be able to justify and defend single firearm right we have left, and don't conceed anything easily, but I just don't get these things. I'd sooner support real suppressors, and how we should have not only a right, but an obligation to use them in certain situations. Why do you want to look like you're breaking the law, I guess is my question?
The nanny state Libtard, who's gonna call the cops when they see your gun with a fake can, would've called them even if the can wasn't there, so you don't really have the "Piss off the Libs" argument. Unless confusing the pro-gun folk is your goal

I own all nature of scary, piss off the lib's stuff, handguns, semi auto's, even the Outlaw, with a pre-order for the 8.5 inch grizzly, so I really do want to understand here. I'm not some closet Lib, saying anything should be banned, I just don't get the attraction, is all. Even if it's just to pose in the mirror and look badass, I can support that, but to go out and have something gun related that will likely only confuse police and others around, doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

If were to accept that train of logic we would probably also find ourselves shortly wanting to:
  • avoid using 5/20 or 5/30 magazines that would potentially confuse police and other people around us.
  • stay far away from any *cough* MSSA *cough* for fear of having it mistaken for something it is plainly not. (MSAA being an obvious reference to the egregious modality of classification Australians find themselves subject to after such notions were entrenched into their Firearms Act).
But we as Canadians have not wholesale accepted that same notion. And thank God for that because in plain words a prohibited device has to do more than simply look like a duck.

Consider the following. While these items LOOK much like their prohibited counterparts they do not meet the existing legal definitions of a prohibited device in Canada. Our Judicial system has admitted on court record that our Firearms Act is ambiguous and confusing, but it nonetheless does require the bureaucratic gate keepers to make weapons classifications according to function rather than pure appearance.

(I'm not trying to encourage a pissing match over misuse of Authority granted under the Act that has seen 'variant' clauses being used as justification for prohibition on the sole basis of appearance. As that matter is before the court now in an official legal challenge, lets please not go down that road of discussion until the findings are settled.)

And there is the attraction. As the common forum saying goes; 'because he can...'

Consumer freedom baby.

*ETA: sorry for the numerous rewrites but it is Monday morning prior to first coffee and it was important to me to make sure my response is coherent.

Because he can, and there's not a whole lot of things we can get away with these days.

I have one that I've put on my rifle a few times, mostly to push the bounds and invite conversation. I've garnered much support from talking to people about suppressors and dispelling the myths about them. It's almost always gotten a positive response. Like everywhere, even at our gun club, there's some liberal wankers that ##### to #####. It doesn't affect them, so why worry... right?

And the best reason... It's legal, that's enough.

I was hoping that this thread was going to be about breasts................ *sigh*

Joe of CQB services has some really nice fake cans in stock......... and no im not referring to his recent medical procedure.

Curtmg and other gentlemen:

If I may add my thoughts here.

Let me start off buy saying, I have broken down, joined the "Dark side" have purchase a CZ-858 - 2 the non-restricted version.

While I truly appreciate a Red/Black rifle that is affordable and has "Non-restricted status, I am not a very big fan of the 19" or so barrel length it required to gain that status, and the resulting Narwhale-ian look.

While I can appreciate function of form on occasion, If something looks out of proportion to me, I am inclined to see if one can find a way to enhance its appearance. To that end I too have considered a "Fake Can". The type that I was considering is, after knocking out the front sight base pins, finding a sleeve that fits over the barre, and screws into place where the flash hider should be.

Now granted, this is really nothing more than a facade, with no real function, other than to make an Non-restricted rifle more eye appealing. However, it is with in the letter of the law, and if it makes me more proud/confident of my carbine, then why not. Its also a good point to remember that we are one of a select few nations that have outright "outlawed" the use of suppressors for the public at large. Place like New Zealand embrace the use of suppressors.

These are just my thoughts, and if it make for further constructive discussion, then this was very much worth the effort.

regards and all the best

Charles, how about a nice machined clamshell (2 piece) clamp on barrel weight? I have been thinking about one for my CZ-858-2 Tactical and maybe my SKS, it would 'look' evil but actually do some good for your shooting. I might get one made one off by a friend. ;)

PS: the barrel on the SKS and the CZ-858 are both not tapered right?

When I am looking to buy a gun I typically look at a couple of things:

1) Functionality: What I can/can't do with it.
2) Accuracy: Is it capable of consistent groupings?
3) Resale: What percentage of my money can I get back?
4) Looks: Does it pass my badass scale of awesome?

The looks make up a good percentage of if I will buy a gun. If it looks like junk I probably won't buy it.

Could you please share how you did it, given the M14x1R threading ?
Is this a custom-made piece, or did it require some sort of adaptation between 1/2x28tpi and M14x1R ?
'cause fake cans in 1/2x28 can be found easily. But i don't find any for the CZ858 threading.
thanks

Its an airsoft silencer my cousin gave me. It's threaded in 14x1R... No modification at all. It's just installed backwards over the barrel.

I don't know anything other than that.. no manufacturer or anything. It's cheap aluminum, probably not too expensive.

That is what I want. When I started my 58 and more thread years ago, I was a purist. Actually, I still like the red furniture, but now I've finally come over. I want to get one just like this. I hope someone puts an 858 fake can in the inventory. Remember, a Lib will always have the panties jacked up high no matter what you do.

Any updates on fake cans for these things?

I want one for a non-restricted 858. I hate the look of the long skinny barrels!

Of course, if some one came out with a heavier, 18.5" chrome lined replacement barrel, that would be fine as well.;)

What I was thinking was slide the factory front sight back to the same position as a 15.5" restricted model, then have a roughly 3.5" fake can shrouding the extra length of the barrel to "look" like a suppressed VZ-58. That would be the look for me. Fat Tony, you're right about the SKS barrel tapering for sure. My chinese SKS barrel is .624" infront of the gas block, tapering to .581" behind the front sight/bayo lug. The last 2.88" of barrel on the muzzle end is turned down to .548" to create a raised edge to stop the bayo lug from sliding down the barrel when "using" the bayo. Unfortunately I'm too poor for even an 858 right now so I dont have one to compare, but I wont let my little dream die that easily. I was thinking buy something like a spikes tactical fake can, which is almost 7" long and have it bored and tapped to m14x1r, then shortened to the necessary length and either rewelded or epoxied back together and repainted.
