Fake LaRue, Magpul, and Knight's accessories

Devil's Advocate:

If it is not OK to buy cheap Chinese knockoff accessories then why is it OK to buy cheap Chinese knockoff rifles?

I certainly hope none of the people posting here about the evil's of buying knockoff accessories own or have owned anything from Norinco? Cause that would be HYPOCRITICAL.

Come now you know when it comes to say Norinco on the 1911, they have aquired the blueprints (although in a round about way) legally. :D

I all most did the same thing with arms mounts. I had a buyer on the bored try and sell me some mounts so I went to tims for a coffee and to meet him. I looked and the said to be real arms mounts. They looked real right to the markings A.R.M.S on the lever when I put them in my hand they seemed really light so I grabed my spring punch out of my tool box and told him if there real they wont dent. I punched a dent allmost 1/3 the way through. I would say there 70% aluminium to make a dent like that. I told him there fake and I dont want them he got mad and stormed off peeling his tires spitting rocks at me.. I have not seen his account sence

I use this punch test now on every part I buy cheap airsoft parts are made with way more aluminium then the real steel parts

Not sure on validity of your test, some spring punches will do that to aluminum if they are made to mark hard steels.

Isnt arms mounts made of aluminum anyway, I think most of the good brands are made of aluminum.

yes is really does suck to see fakes, your lucky they are trying to do it cheaply.
It would be very easy to make a copy just as as good as the real items, once the item has been on the market for a while.

Last week a CGN member came by to install an 11" LaRue rail he had bought off the EE, but as soon as he removed it from his bag, I knew I had some bad news for him. I started asking him where he got it, how long ago, how much $, etc... but eventually I had to tell him he was sold a fake.

So? What is happening with this disgraceful individual??

Is he refunding the money?

Details on who? So we can all avoid him...

This should be the focus of this post!

On principle I don't use copied or pirated software. Trademarked fake mounts rails and optics that don't pay royalties probably fall in the same category.

But it is never black and white. In my opinion I don't think Aimpoint is suffering sales from cheapo knockoffs. Nor is their reputation being tarnished. So I don't have a problem with "copies" per se. If anything I think it increases the desirability for the real thing. Just like a fake Rolex vs the real thing.

I don't feel guilty buying stuff at the dollar store or buying the no name raisin bran vs the Post brand original.

I do have a problem with the personal fraud attached to selling something fake to an unsuspecting buyer.

I'm the guy who bought Larry's knock off Aimpoint and Larue combo, and I really bought it, as mentioned, as a gag - a knock off rifle, with a knock off sight (I'm still looking for a cheap knock off bayonet). Having goofed around with it for a while though, I'd have to say my next AR will have the real thing mounted on it, the difference in weight and the effect it has on handling is amazing, so maybe the knock offs contribute to sales of the real thing. The rifle will continue to be shot seriously (as serious as I get with my toys) with the DMS on it, as it doesn't take a whole lot of rounds to know the difference between knock off and real. That's one place where the knock off rifles have a huge advantage over the knock off sights.

How much did "unamed CGN member" pay for his rail? Hopefully he thought he was getting a screaming deal.

Well I paid too much. It was sold as the real deal and I did not know until Taman told me the badn ews a month after I got it. Now the seller does not respond. So it comes to the whole buyer beware thing.

He left way before changes were made I dont even have his pm any more :(

I can hit the under side of my real a.r.m.s mounts and my punch wont even dent it. and yes there is aluminium in most parts but some are more like a steel and aluminium blend for all the front ends I have any ways. I think LaRue is just CNC aluminium if im not mistaken. I dont own any of there stuff so I am not sure if its a blend or not and how soft it is .I would not even want to hit it at the price they are tho. For me I like heavy steel I dont carry my rifle all day so heavy is not a issue with me plus I dont like dings in my rails

And yes I own a (fake) or a copy but I still wont put soft parts on my rifle to risky of it breaking and wasteing my money. I used to play airsoft and the rails I had were bent all to hell they were way to soft to use on any thing that makes a bang plus the threads allways strip and its just a hassle to tap them over and over

Dude you don't know what you don't know.

Very few quality AR mounts are steel, they are usually 6061-T651 Aluminum which has been Type IIIA Hard Coat Anodized.
Even our .50BMG mounts are 6061-T651.

The hard anodizing is a surface hardening, it does not make the interior aluminum any harder, so a sharp impact can actually dent it.

There is no such thing as Aluminium and Steel blend. You probably have damaged his mount, but he was an idiot to let you do this in the first place.

To add to what Kevin and GT are saying most mil spec rails are made from 6061t6, but you do see some gun parts that are cast alum, this is the cheapest way to copy somthing.
Casting can be very good for somethings as it will alow you to mix stronger metals into the casting, but this is not done on things like rails or mounting hardware.

My Norinco firearms say Norinco on them...they are not misrepresenting themselves as Colt or Springfield.

Granted Norinco firearms are not marketed as Colt items but you can be darn sure Norinco is not paying Colt a licencing fee for those rifles. Which makes them a cheap knock-off of uncertain quality.

That this thread exists on a board which includes an entire section devoted to cheap chinese knock-offs is the definition of irony.

In reality we only hate the cheap knock-offs when it suits us. However when we can get a screaming deal on a pirated copy of an AR15 then we love those same knock-offs.

Kettle, this is Pot ...... BLACK .. over!

Knockoff LaRue, KAC, etc. parts infringe on the trademarks and designs of those companies. Furthermore, they are almost always of vastly inferior quality. So there's two issues - the first being that you're buying a piece of crap, and the second that the piece of crap claims to be something else.

Not only are Norinco rifles typically of good quality (considering the price), they do not claim to be something they're not. I can see your point if they are manufacturing designs which are still protected by patents, but I don't believe there are any patents out on the AR15, M14, 1911, etc. designs.
