I'm looking to get the new Falcon 5.5-25x FFP scope but can't decide on the size of the objective lens. I get that the 56 objective will let in more light (how mouch more I don't know) but the the 50 will sit lower and might weight an ounce less? It's going on a Rem 700 with a Badger Ordnance 20 MOA mount and I plan on getting some TPS rings. Which would you choose the 50 or 56 and why?
 
56 is starting to be BIG. Unless you are honestly going to be doing lots of low light shooting, the 50mm objective should be plenty in my opinion. You've already noted it sitting lower, and being lighter. You should have more choices for rings for a 50mm scope than for a 56 as well. Having said that, the 56mm does have that little extra cool factor...
 
I bought the 4.5-18x56 with the miliradian turrets and am so pleased! For the money, it sure is one fantastic piece of glass. I have it on my 10FCP and have ZERO issues. I don't find 56mm too big. If I were to use it as a hunting scope I would probably choose something smaller though.

I was thinking TPS Med rings but I heard their Low rings are closer to everyone else's Mediums. Do you have any experience with the TPS/50mm objective set-up?

Those with or had chime in...pics if you have em'
 
With an EGW base and TPS low rings we were able to mount the 56mm on a Remington 700 LTR but the scope caps touched the barrel. The 50 should fit, but we haven't tested it and don't have a set of rings here we can try out. Hopefully someone else will chime in on this one.

I have a 56 with TPS medium rings. Here's what it looks like on my Stevens 200 in 308 with TPS 20MOA base...



As you can see, there's plenty of clearance, so I'm thinking the low rings would clear as well (worse case scenario, you won't be able to put the caps on). But then again, you can get medium rings and an adjustable cheek rest, and voila, plenty of clearance and a lot less mirage from hot barrels that are to close to the scope...

Thanks for the pic Hyeprofile. Judging by the clearance you have on your 56mm and med rings, I think that TPS lows should work with the 50mm objective.

AGW thanks for the input. I know your EGW mounts are to your specs and are lower than the regs. I think the Badger Ordnance base probably sits the on par with the EGW reg base so that should give added clearance. I should have my order in by tomorrow. :rockOn:

By the way anyone got pics of their TPS Low rings mounted with scope???
