Before anyone says use the search engine I have used it but my question wasn't covered. I didn't want to post this in Optics because I thought it would be more appropriate in battle rifles because it is specifically towards Norcs.

I'm interested in getting the 4-14 FFP and was wondering for those of you that are running one of these on your M-14/M305 how many rounds you've put through it and how it is holding up to the abuse. I toyed with the 5-25 but thought that was too much scope.

I'm also curious what sort of groups you are getting and how far out you are shooting. I'm interested in turning my M-14 into more of a designated marksman rifle and have heard great things about the Falcon Menace scopes, just nothing about durability and repeatability during long term use.

I had the 4-14 and it was my feeling that 14 was a bit much.

Never had a problem, held zero, but my shooting ability however is what is the tragedy here (no groupings worth repeating here :)).

I have since learned proper cheek weld and alignment so I am sure I would be better at it now, but until 7.62/.308 prices stabilize somewhat (which I hold little hope for, but just a little) it'll stay parked in the cabinet.

On my Norc now, sits a Leupy 1.5-5, but for me, but it is my preference to see more field of range rather than up close.

I think this scope is fantastic value for the money.

I would have to agree with Cyanide Ride. I personaly think anything over a 10x scope on the m14 platform is over kill. Scopes that have a 2x to 10x zoom are perfect for this rig. As for the falcon menace scope is concerned. It is a great scope for the price and will hold up to the punishment from the m14 but unless you plan on shooting at ranges past 600 meter's a 14x zoom will probaly through off your focal point and cause your groups to open up. Again this is just my thought's and many will probaly disagree.
 
Thanks for your input so far but I do plan on using this rifle at considerable distance. The reason why I'm interested in variable power is I can still use it for hunting at 4x yet still have the magnification to use it at longer distance for target shooting/varmint hunting/etc. How far do I plan on shooting? As far as I can! I also reload so the cost of ammo is not as much of a concern. I already pack my M-14 on week long hunting trips with a 3-9 Accupoint but want something with even more magnification and target turrets (I don't road hunt). Three point slings are great!!!

My question is, "How durable are 4-14 FFP Falcon Menace scopes and how well do they stand up to extended use on the M-14/M-305 platforms?"

Please chime in with how many rounds fired through this platform/scope set-up and how is it working out for you?
 
I had a 4-14 Falcon/Merlin on my Nork M1A and thought it was just right (but what do I know:D). After about 1,000 rounds in now sits on my Savage 10FCP and is still going strong. Great entry scope for the $$$...
 
I have a Falcon 4-14 on my Norc. I use a Bassett mount & custom stock from M14Doctor. Less than 200 rds. Holds up well....so far. On a recent session, my father (retired RCAF) was making "cloverleafs" @ 100 m, using American Eagle 150gr.

The scope and the rifle work together.
M14s and 1.5-5X30SIR, that is.
My brother got a 2.5 inch grouping at 100 yards with surplus SA. That was his first time to boot.
My groups were not that great.:puke:
