Falcon Menace Problem - How should I deal with this?

I'm having a problem with a Falcon Menace 5.5-25x56FFP scope I've purchased.

This weekend, I installed a new 15MOA rail and took the gun out to test fire this morning. After adjusting the up/down and left/right to my satisfaction, I attempted to re-install the adjustment caps. The up/down tightened up fine, the left/right did not.

As you can see in the pictures, the 3 screws on the left/right adjustment cap seem to be hitting just off of the end of the brass piece to the extent that when I attempt to tighten them down, the screws just force the cap to slide off because they aren't biting well enough.

I've so far tried taking all of the adjustment to both the left and right extremes and attempted to re-tighten the cap without any success.

I have an email in with Falcon, but I am not the original purchaser of the scope, nor do I have a recipt = they're going to tell me to get lost.

What would you think if I just took a small amount of JB weld and put a dab on the end of that piece of bass and filed it down so that the screw had more material to tighten down against?

Here is what I think happened. With the 15moa rail, you had to use quite a lot of "down" to zero. So much that the stem is screwed far enough into the turret that the set screws in the knob cannot engage the stem. I bet that if you removed the rail, went back to what you had, the setscrews would lock on the stem.
Do you really need the 15 minute rail?
You emailed FM in the UK? They will get back to you. If I'm correct about what is wrong, I don't know what can be done about it, though.

I actually don't have a problem with the up/down cap, it's the left/right on the side of the scope that I can't get to tighten up.

I did have to dial ~15MOA into the scope to get it to re-zero after installing the new rail, but I also had to dial about 20 clicks left!.

Why I had to go 20 clicks left when the only thing I change was the rail is beyond me.

But yeah, it's the left/right cap I'm talking about, not the up/down.

I did take the scope all the way left AND all the way right and tried to re-install the cap, but it's the same thing, I can't get it to tighten down. It's like it needs just a 1/4" more material on that stud thing so that the screw will hit enough of it to tighten down.

Missed the L-R, U-D.
The set screws are backed all the way out when the knob is put in place? The knob isn't hanging up on the burrs?
There's nothing in the stem bore in the knob to block it? The knob is seating properly, with reference to the scale?

Yes, no, I don't think so and yes.

With the screws back right out, I can slide the cap on no problem until it stops.

The problem comes when I attempt to tighten the set screws down, I can feel them "hit" the brass stud part, and as I tighten them further, I can feel them "slip" off of the stud.

Trust me, I'm as confused as you.

Either the "stud" isn't long enough, or the holes for the set screws are drilled and tapped to far outside of the range on the cap to securely let them hit the "stud" when tightened.

Falcon emailed me back and asked that I try the U/D cap on the R/L adjustment to see if it works, and it does. The R/L cap also tightens down on the U/D adjustment, so I guess I could just leave them installed backwards, althought it's not really an ideal solution after having spent ~$400 on a scope (although it was admitidly used, bought from the EE).

I emailed them back and asked why they seem to work reversed and how much it would cost to buy a new L/R cap.

I will update when I hear back.

Falcon's warranty sucks...the website says lifetime warranty but what they don't say is that they've only been doing that for the last 18 months or so. Basically if you don't have a receipt, you don't have a warranty. This is a huge deal when you can spend a little more to buy a Vortex or Leupold and get a better scope and hassle free warranty. Resale value is definately affected.
