Most definitely there is a different technique for the fall turkey hunt.
Breeding season is over so don’t expect to hear gobbling and a hen’s breeding yelp will not draw a tom.
Generally speaking, birds will now be starting to hang out in larger groups of their own s e x. I have found 2 strategies successful for fall turkey and no doubt there are many more (such as busting up a flock and waiting for them to re-gather....never tried this one but I’ve no doubt it works).
1) observe their pattern of movement and ambush them
2) make kee-kee-run calls (lost bird call) to draw in a group of hens
I’ve mostly used #2 strategy in the fall and it has been my experience that birds are far less cautious in the fall and often downright curious. First fall bird I shot came to my simple yelp because that was the only turkey sound I knew how to make! Last year while deer hunting I had a turkey flock get separated from one another and listened to a hen kee-kee-run for 10 minutes before the flock re-united. It was cool to witness and it was clear that those birds will move when they think someone is lost.
