I love the falling block action - can't speak to some of the other makes but did own the newer 1885's and a Ruger no 1.
The 1885's from Miroku are different internally vs the original's. From what I've read they are very fiddly to disassemble. Fit and finish on mine were extremely nice. The action felt solid and smooth. All functioned well but the Ruger felt a bit unfinished next to the Miroku... more machining marks visible and the lever was a bit loose and rattly. The Ruger was also a bit more chuncky / thicker.
The Ruger and some Miroku's do not have tang sight mounting provisions; The high wall's with rubber butt's and low wall hunter's on the current catalogue do not have an upper tang. I could not comfortably scope these as the mounting points are further forward than on a bolt gun and I couldn't get my scopes back far enough for standing shots. Ended up selling all of them for various reasons and miss having a falling block action in the safe...
