Hay cutting operations do that to many deer fawns hidden in tall grass.

I remember hunting one year and seeing a deer's leg practically get blown off. Looked like it was held on by a thread and was spinning like the hands on a clock. Very disturbing sight, but boy could he move with just those three legs.
