I've got a Famae 540 that has inconsistent ejection, with the occasional stovepipe. It seems to me that the ejector is too short, and one of the previous owners may have filed it down. Can anyone get me the width of their ejector? Mine seems to be measuring at 0.215" Thanks!

Pull the adjuster knob off by drifting the pin out, and clean out in there.

Mine was CAKED full of carbon buildup after a few thousand rounds. Cleaning that up helped. I think I even posted about it a while back.

Definitely not a gas issue. As per the pics below, there is too much clearance between the upper receiver and the bolt carrier, which is causing an inconsistent positioning of the ejector. I thought that perhaps the ejector was too short, but it seems I'll have to widen the carrier a bit to get a good, consistent position of the ejector relative to the bolt face.

Those pics say a lot!
That is quite the gap between the ejector and the bolt head.

Could the reciever have been spread open by some kind of force at some time?

That was my thought as well! Perhaps a potential OOB detonation or something during this rifles past, but alas, receiver width measured pretty consistent, inside and out.

I'm going to place a few weld beads on the carrier, then mill them down to widen the carrier by 20thou. Will hopefully get a chance to test fire and report back.

That ejector has been screwed with.
It should be square faced and nearly touch the bolt in the channel it rides.

Update:

Thanks for your help guys. I was able to fix the ejection issue. I ended up putting some welds on the right side of the bolt carrier so that it would be closer to the ejector. Rifle now ejects brass about 3-4ft away at the 3oclock position on the regular gas setting, and 10-12 feet away at the 1oclock position on the adverse gas setting.
